RE: CMP 160 sized Texan
Guys,
I'm going with a Brillelli 25ccGT on mine. Should do the job nicely! I am not a retract fan so I will be putting a set of robo-struts on and that's it! I'll post some pics once I get started.
Happy Flying!

Loopman, I'm curious about your engine/plane combo. I'm wondering what engine to use on mine. Did you use the magneto version, or e.i.? Was any weight needed to balance? Did it fit in the cowl? How was the performance? Thank you.
BTW if you have pics, I'd love to see them!

Hi All
Just pick one up from Raidentech/Nitroplanes.com. Great guys, lots of inventory great prices. Not much on conversation though.
On these arfs you need to go back to basics. Make sure you use your own successful calculations for CG. Most of the CMP locations are not forgiving (to far aft) , . Don't be afraid to put all the ballast you need in this AT6 to Cg it. It is a tail heavy airframe in general as a model. The covering will come off, its cheap. The cowl will need to be beefed up. Good place for some nose wieght.
Even with all your "upgrades" you'll still come out ahead.
A few things to note about the CMP arfs and arf in general from China. They are made in a masses and quick. If your paint chips, remember you only paid around $250-$300 for a fully assembled model. Imagine if you paid $500.00 for some of the chinese models that are smaller than this one, its paint will still chip, its still made from polyester resin, just more cost to you.
Mine will have an OS 160, robarts, I will glass the outer panels and airfoil the Hstab. And put my own colors on it.
So the work you do on it, you start way ahead of where you would be if you bought a kit for more money.
I'm not an arf guy but i currently have. CMP: 2-53" P51Ds, 2- 70" zeros, 1-54" zero, 1-Mosquito and the 82" AT6.

RE: CMP 160 sized Texan
I,m thinking about getting a AT-6 in this size range. I was originally thinking of going with a Midwest kit but have since come across this version of a 1/6th AT-6 and agree that for $250us you get quite a head start and can modify the airframe if desired to get a better flying more scale apperance without to much difficulty. Besides the 3 piece wing has its definate advantages for storage and transportation etc.

Steve I could not agree more , if you dont have a ton of time the CMP are a great place to start as far as just adding to the basics to make the kits better or going farther to add even more scale . I have the 73" p40 as my next build , I know I need a ton of mods but its was a good frame to start on .
Keep us posted , planes looks interesting and worth buying .

RE: CMP 160 sized Texan
Hey guys I just recieved my CMP AT-6. I,m very impressed with the workmanship and the basic airframe as a starting point for making a really nice Sport scale warbird. I too am going with Robart retracts with mods the the glass center section of the wing. I will post some pics this weekend if I can figure out how to do so. As for anyone just interested in putting the plane as delivered together and flying I see no major obstacles with that choice either [ well maybe the hardware needs replacing]. I got mine through my local hobby shop and they sourced it through AKM models $320 cdn you can,t beat the price.

I finial got around to working on my t-6, can you all give me some suggestions on how to make the wings detachable.
It looks like it going to be a quick and easy build, I am using a g-26, robart retracts. and looking for a better tail wheel.
and a pilot.. back later terry

I posted my experience in Questions and answers Anthony. I wouldn't even consider one if I were you. No customer support and too many other issues. Yes in my other post I misspelled glued, I hit the wrong key and not the spell-checker. Whooopse.

RE: CMP 160 sized Texan
I'm looking at this t-6 as my first large bird. I really love the look of it! I have a new Magnum 1.80fs that I would really like to use. I've heard some refrences that it's got a short cowl. Would a four stroke fit the cowl? Also excuse my ignorance, but I notice quite a few of you guys ether use big 2-stroke glow or 2-stroke gas engines, why no four stroke glows?
Thanks,
Dave

RE: CMP 160 sized Texan
Hey guys I,m still trying to figure out how to upload some pics.I,ve got mine stripped and have already primered up the fuse. The construction is as good as any I,ve seem. As for the 4 stroke issue, the cowl is short you,ve got 5 1/2" from the firewall to the cowl face. I,ve looked at a few different options 2 stroke, 4 stroke and gas and still haven,t decided. I,m sure that adding weight to the front of this airframe is going to be necessary. I,m shooting for a 14-16lb AUW. With this in mind though I,m starting my search for a suitable engine that will put out 14-17lbs of thrust with no bigger than a 17" prop.
thx Dave

The scale prop size for this plane will be between 17" and 18". I'm considering this model but there's not a lot of info on it on the forums. I would finish it in the scheme in the picture I attached which is a norwegian Harvard.

RE: CMP 160 sized Texan
Hi guys, thanks for the info re-posting pics I,ll give it another try. As for the prop Tahustvedt is right the scale size of props for a 1/6th scale plane are 17-18". I have placed my retracts along with 3 3/4" wheels on the wings and mounted them to the fuse. I just eye balled it and the 17" prop looks right when referencing my 3-views. The 18" looks good as well so I guess its a toss up on which size to go with. I just purchased another Saito 180 from a club member for $235 cdn [ I couldn,t pass on the deal ] so therefore I,m going with this as my power plant. I know from experience that I can get 9000rpm on a 17 x 8 APC prop which puts out 16lbs of real world thrust so even if I get up to the upper range on the overall weight I shouldn,t have any problems.

RE: CMP 160 sized Texan
Thanks for the info on the prop. The motor that I'm goin to use in this one will probably be what I have in my Top Flite Mustang now. I'm changing it out for the AXI 5345 on a 12s battery. That means that my T-rex 40/300 is going into the Harvard. Turning an 18x10 or so prop should allow it to turn high 8000s or even 9000 with the right pitch. That would make the AT-6 really haul the mail.

That motor will surely provide plenty of power. Good luck with the install and post your AUW, as I,d like to compare our planes weights when finished.

RE: CMP 160 sized Texan
i have one of these, and i must say, i am most impressed, the wings seem to be film on the outer panels, with red film on the tail feathers, fuselage is silver, and seems to be molded in that colour, (could be wrong here,) flys really well, yes, i am impressed, and that says a lot, because i promote YT/KMP international planes, which we design, i dont like film on warbirds, but on this one, its bright, colourfull, and represents the trainer it is, FULL MARKS CMP, but dont tell my boss i am praising their products!!! power in mine is a GMS 2000 glow, but thats coming out, and a zenoah 26 is going in, i bought it second hand but brand new, so i cannot comment on the build but its outline seems VERY close SO much better than other warbirds in the range
