RE: nitroplanes.com FW 190 Build
guys, what kind of paint are you using? I wonder if my fuel soaked 190 is worth a make-over or should I pay for a new one, and what kind of paint will stick?

RE: nitroplanes.com FW 190 Build
I sealed the paint with clear coat before I began to assemble the model. But for touch ups I went to the home depot with sample strips from the model and had them match it using the computer. The touch up paint is high quality outdoor paint and I have a quart of gray and green.
And I have used it a few times now...
On a similar note I have a fuel soaked 1.20 P-51 that is about to get a good sanding and refinish. I am looking at options for it as well. Currently I don't have a solid plan for it except to start sanding. I am thinking that I will sand it down and spray with an outdoor paint and clear coat with fuel proof flat clear.

Broken, Latex or oil based? I heard glow fuel will eat house paint, although you did say your using at fuel proof clear. If you are using gas how far are is your electronic stuff, servos, rx, batt?

RE: nitroplanes.com FW 190 Build
I used latex flat by Behr (premium plus). When I do a touch up I lightly sand the area, clean it with rubbing alcohol. Then I paint it and clear coat the newly painted spot. The end result is nearly invisible. To date I have not had any issues with the paint so long as I keep the nitro below 15%.
As far as servo placement is concerned it has been a non issue. The servo tray is on the CG- and I use a DX-7..

Hey guys... First off, great information to those like me that are interested in this aircraft. I was looking at nitroplanes.com and noticed that they have two versions of this plane. Which one should I get? Which one did you guys get? Thanks.

The $199 version is CMP , I think the $169 one is Flymodels.com , a CMP copy , they make the Hellcat copy and so many others .
The real long build featured by Dyno(whatever ) on the Hellcat is actuall a copy and not the CMP .
I have not heard any bad things about the copies . but CMP is a slight step above them .
I have the CMP Spitfire and 73P40 , and the flymodels Hellcat , packing is the same , rips and formers appear to be the same but there are slight quality differances , its really up to you .
ALex from Ak use to carry both versions , dont know if he still does

RE: nitroplanes.com FW 190 Build
Thanks alot. I think I'll go the CMP route. Take care.

UPDATE: Just went to AK Models and ordered my FW 190. He had the CMP kit and the shipping was only $18 to Florida from Iowa. I'm sure I'll have lots of questions for y'all, so stay tuned. Thanks.

Are these the retracts that I could be using? I found them on Tower... They are for a 1/6 pica kit. This FW 190 is 1/6 size also, correct?

I bought my CMP FW-190 from Giant Scale Planes. I bought the retracts direct from Century Jet. The link is below. These are not the same ones as the Pica as Centruy Jet has a different number for those on their web site. Click the Search the Store on the Century Jet web site and key in FW-109 and you will see all the different retracts they have for the FW-190.
Here is the link

Hmmmm... Did they @ Century point you in the direction that you took or did you just decide to go with those? Did they pretty much just drop right in or was it a major undertaking to install them? Thanks.

RE: nitroplanes.com FW 190 Build
I have never had a problem with CJ . All the gear purchased before (check me on these dates ) 2005 , had a bad built in lower strut . It would flex and bend on the slightest pressure . It was hollow . They will replace this in your gear for free . I sent them my H9 corsair gear and received them back in 10 days , free fix !!!
The reason I like CJ is that they actually do what the real high end guys do as far as making the gear for the planes . An example , Spitfire gear for a Gold edition is smaller then spit gear for a CMP Spitfire , ok sound stupid but that is not the case with others . So many try to make a one size fits all !!!
I have sierra gear for a P40 , best gear I have owned buttttttt..... its a one size for the top flight P40 and the same gear for a 73" P40 ????? Sure there strong enoght but the strut length limits your options on props on the larger plane .
Most of my gear is CJ with the exception of the sierra and a few robart from my early days .
I do prefer the Robart regulators over the CJ .
As far as drops in , i dont really think that exist in ARFs , if you drop it in , it will drop out !.
Every ARF I have owned needed glass, wood , reinforcment .

Just noticed this image advertised here on RCU. Recognize this plane? (Hint) look behind all the advertisement mumbo jumbo and focus on the plane.

Hey, Hey Broken !!!! I'd be feeling a little pride right now if I were you bro. Ultimate compliment.
My 190 is still in one piece . Of course the ice storm and cold temps keep it that way lately. But I'll get her out first chance I get.

I've only used CJ and Robart along with a set that came with my KMP 109. I am using it on a spit. not the 109 it came with due to the angle. I think the Robart's have been the best and most reliable and I agree. The Robart valve is the best one that I have used and is much better than CJ's.
I'll keep that in mind about the H9 Corsair gear because I also have a set that have pretty soft strut legs. So far I have managed to bend them back to shape after hard landings but, it doesn't really take much to bend them. The springs on mine need to be replaced as they are no longer strong enough to fully rotate the wheels when retracted.
I just think the ones that I bought for my KMP 109 are a little flimsy for that plane which weighs 15 pounds. A few more ounces to make them stronger would have been a better plan.
I also agree that every ARF needs modifications especially in the retract areas. I don't know why manufacturers don't understand this and make them stronger to begin with.

Hey Broken,
Nice to live near a famous person! Where do you fly? I noticed you are from Herriman. I am from Sandy. I usually go down to the Lehi field. I have been flying down there for many years now. I get back from the desert the first week of Feb and am looking forward to some flying. We'll have to meet up some day. Would love to see that 190 in person!
