thanks! It is a Sportsman Aiviation plane I bought off of RCU awhile back. I love the way it flies. My son painted it with white auto primer. The original color scheme was a little lame. I dont remember the wingspan off hand, but it is a little smaller than yours. I originally used the mechanical retracts and a Magnum 61 4 stroke. Wasnt enough power, went to an old Saito 80 I had until the exhaust manifold cracked. I recently put my last 4 stroke I had sitting around, an OS 91. A little over powered now. But it flies real nice. I put Springairs in it to replace the weak mechanicals.

Right now she is hanging in my garage waiting for my return!

Well, I got my FW this Friday. Got it from Alex at AK Models. Shipping was only $19.00 and it arrived via FEDEX in perfect condition. I was tempted to go with the on sale version from Nitro Planes, but opted to go with AK since he stocked the CMPro version of this plane. For anyone who has their doubts about the appearance of this plane, don't be. The plane looks MUCH MUCH better in person. The pictures on the website don't do it justice. The quality of the fiberglass looks really good, the cowl opening is perfectly round and very smooth. The quality of the pain also looks very good, but the scheme is lacking a bit as we all know. I'm not sure if the non CMPro version comes like mine, but the canopy was very nice and it was painted as well. Overall, from a first impression standpoint, I'm pretty happy with it. I plan on going with a 26cc gasser. I'll keep y'all posted...

No I didn't ask them even though I picked them up from them when I was in Louisville for a meeting. I went with them because someone else in this thread had used them and they did fit very well but there was some minor work.

Mine are still in the box waiting to go into the plane when I decide to start it. I have been very busy and have other projects that I have started that I want to finish before I start another one.

Hmmmm... Did they @ Century point you in the direction that you took or did you just decide to go with those? Did they pretty much just drop right in or was it a major undertaking to install them? Thanks.

Still putting all of the items together for the build... What type of servos do I need in this bird? Are you guys using standard servos or something with a bit more torque? What should be minimum torque on a plane of this size? Thanks.

I am using standard servos. The latest flight pack I bought has the JR DS537 digital servos. I did get a PCM receiver as our field has a rule about using a throttle safe on all planes with 80+ inch wing spans and weighing 10+ pounds. You don't need to have or use a fail safe on everything just a fail safe on the throttle to go down to idle just in case you loose the signal. Won't save your plane if it kicks in but it maybe the difference between maming someone or killing them. Not that either of those is a good thing.

With the PCM receiver I can do it through the radio instead of buying another part to insert between the receiver and servo. Even though the wing span is only 70 inches I will be using an Irvine 1.20 in the nose. This way it avoids the hassle of saying it isn't 80 inches everytime someone looks at it as this is a good size plane.

I purchased my spinner from Sky-Shark R/C and I got the bigger one for the 190-D9 as the one for the 190-A8 looked a little smal to me. i think I made the right choice as the one I got looks good on the front of that Irvine. I did buy the two blade because I did not think I could get a large enough three blade propeller without mortgaging the house. Although the three blade does look neat.

I agree with liking the look of the D9 spinner as well. Size wise, it's about one inch bigger in diameter, I think. You'd be hard pressed to find someone to call you out on the difference between the two spinner types. Thanks for the info on the servos.

sean- where did you get your model from? It looks looks well built. It would be interesting to see the differences between your model and the others posted here. Do you have any pics of the inside?

Here are some pic's of the Skyshark D9 spinner on my CMPro Fw-190, the shape is not exactly 100% for the A series of the Fw-190, but the kit is also a fair way off too as discussed earlier in this thread, so i think it does make the model look heaps better.

Thanks thebluemax,

The spinner comes really nicely polished from Skyshark, so i rough up the surface with some scotchbrite. I then had it sprayed white (painters at work do a great job and it's 2-pak). i then masked off the spiral and they then sprayed it black. remove masking and there you have it (unless the mask had some bleed through, then cop a clip on the head from the painters!!)

I'm actually overseas with work, but when i get back,i will kibash the Fw-190 and address some of the shape issues.

thanks

Hey guys ... I will be getting my nitro planes fw190 finished soon I hope.. I ended up with No flaps's Fw... He did an awesome job on the repaint! I have some air retracts for it, just wondered what gear struts would fit.. ??Do the robarts for the top flite fw-190 fit?? Or does century jet cary a set?? If you look earlier in the thread Sean had carved out the gear bays for longer more scale gear.. Thanks!

I almost forgot to post it here- But after I converted the 190 to the DX-7 I took it out for the first flight of the season and had a servo failure in one of the aileron servos.
Here is the thread with all of the details but the bottom line was a close call. After it was replaced the FW-190/DX-7 combo worked flawlessly.
