So at 66 Vs. 71", that suggests to me that a Satio 1.20 might have ample power for this plane...Any thoughts before I buy a gas engine and blow more $$ ?

I did get one of these from Ebay and it arrived last week. There are no cutouts for retracts and the wing isn't scale. It's two piece w/dihedral - there is no flat center section and it doesn't sit flush with the wing saddle (when dry fitted). The FG cowl is pretty flimsy. Horizontal stabilizers are two piece, the rudder is molded into the FG. Pushrods are wooden dowls. It uses two elevator servos. Parts all weighed come in around 96 oz. I'll need to double-check those numbers.

Also, it's silver, not grey and the decals that come with the kit say 'Top Flite'....

Wouldn't be that bad if it was setup for retracts.

here's some input about the other CMPro line planes/ power set up for this one... which this seems to be in the knock-off family of planes.
http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_25...tm.htm#4036448

I can't believe there's no opening for retracts! that really steams my yams!![:@]
The add states that it can accept them, but perhaps so can my office desk if i cut a few holes in it.[:'(]
What a bummer~!

the image on the cover of the bx, shows the oil cooler on the wing's leading edge, but the pics of the sample on the floor doesn't look like that.
I expected the wing to be flat w/ no dihedral...Is it a sheeted foam wing ? what do you think it'll take to prep for retracts.
I'm not surprised about the wood dowels, but hoped the big cowl woul;d be more rigid!

Thanks for the info.

A guy over in the UK is using a piece of aluminum to do the heat shield on the exhaust area on the KMP version, and it doesn't look too bad:

I did? You were probably better off just waiting for the 'buy it now'....

The image on the box and instructions is a picture of the Top Flite kit. The kit comes with plastic oil coolers to mount on the leading edge of the kit. The wing is built up but I haven't had a real chance to look at the wing to see how I'd mount retracts, but at first glance, it looks like it may be a decent challenge.

I'll see if I can get some pics tonight.

Good new regarding the oil cooler (we are talking about the ebayu version correct ?).
Am very interested in seeing the pics when you get the time.[8D]
Perhaps a build thread can be made from your expedition into the wing.

If I do a foray into hacking the wings. I fully expect to have everyone weigh-in with their expertise, b/c this will be my first go at something like this...

I just ordered the plane, so I'll be weilding my knife and dremmel as well.

I'm currently about to hack open the gear holes of my CMPro FW190, but that's a sheeted foam wing.
we'll see what happens there!

JPHen, are you sure you have the same kit, the seller is yuejin2002. i have the auction up in another window and it states "Optional retractable landing gear" under features.. i (if you look at the pix i posted earlier) have the 120 size P47D. Look at pic # 10 , a shot of the underside of the wing shows the UNCUT covering over the wheel well modled into the frame. im putting in Rohm Airs in mine, so i ll be opening the wheel wells up... i ll snap a pic so you all can see the build inside the wing and around the factory desinged wheel wells in the wing... the wheel well is probably there if this is built from the same company, but it may not be readily visable. i didnt notice the retract cutouts right away, though i remember the listing noted them being pre cut into the wings. if they are not there, and its the same company, then i would associate teh differance is in the models available.

Do ANY models come with split flaps? i would think this feature, if available, would of course increase scale appearance, but would think the kit cost would be quite a bit more as well.

as noted by LDM, the kit, mine anyways, did not COME with retractable gear, only the pre cut bay in the wings, though i have seen a few of his auctions note retracts included, though im sure they are inexpensive mechanicals that come with those perticular kits. though im not positive about this...

pretty much all their plane auctions notate the retract bays are there by factrory. as far as a foray, i am hacking into the wings to install retracts, and i DO hope to get help from the fine peeps here.....

heres a few shots of the factory built wheel wells on the P47D kit.

the fit is very close, i ll need to shave a bit of the opening back to get the retracts to sit flush, there will need to be some supports made and installed, but overall, i think it will be pretty easy. the openening is decent, and there is ample room to add supports and braceing...
next pic will show the included wheel wells.

Yep, same seller (from NY). I wish I could say that there is a cut-out that is covered, but the only thing on the under side of the wing is a covered groove for the wire landing gear. No wheel trays either.

No worries. I'll just wait for No Flaps to break out his tools and watch....

I really wish Horizon would import the Seagull Sea Fury. It was a choice between these two planes, but getting the Seagull would have cost me a little over $300.

I hope this is the plane has retracts bays , the ad siad it did and that will be a shame . I emialed the seller to ask for a view on the bottom of the plane but he never responded . I hope its worth the money , last month I got a copy CMP hellcat and that plane is a real nice deal with good quailty .

The pics of the sea fury look good and the decription better match or I will drive it back to New York myself

Hey guys...
Here's some images of my work on the Nitro Planes/ GSP FW190.[8D]
http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/m_38...tm.htm#3852925
This shows how I stripped the wings and am installing Split Flaps there.
The P47 never had Split flaps so you're in Luck, but the Sea fury did, so that should be a fun project.
I also contacted the seller to ask some questions, but I've never heard back either.
I was hoping that the wheel wells were merely covered over, but it sounds like I'm SOL.[:@]
I'll let you guys know once mine arrives

so it would appear on the SeaFury. guess it makes me a glad, as i was looking at a SF at the same time, but chose the 47 due to more familiarity with it over the SF.
Maybe you guys will be lucky and the SF has the PreSet retracts, just covered with balso instead of just skin like the 47 was. heres hopeing~!

Here are the pics I promised.

Wish it were better news. I hope you can see the picture of the instructions where they only show the mounting of the wire gear.

Oh yeah, maybe I'm mistaken, but wouldn't it be nice to have enough decals for more than one side and to include the underside of the wings?

heh im sure, yea, that surely looks like alot of the same type stuff, but my decals dont say TopFlight on them. actually the only print on the decals are the plane id numbers on my sheet.... bummer, my Rohm Airs should be here tomorrow so i can start dry fitting them. the ones in the pix above are springairs i think. how does one tell the differance in some of these retracts.... Robarts are easy, theyve got the ROBART sticker on the cylinder. but what about Rohm or Spring Airs. any definitve markings to tell the differance. im assumeign the sierras and CJs are well marked. ????

Springairs need air pressure to retract them but use springs to extend them. Thus they only have one air line connection. CJs and Sierras are not marked as such.

so that explains the name SPRING air. lol ok, then i have NO springair retracts, but got 3 pair of Rohm Airs and a set of larger Robarts that appears to be needing a rebuild. at least one does. Does Rohm Air make a steerable tail wheel? pnuematic? i ve not seen one, but plenty of Robarts and CJs...???? still need one for this 120 P47.

This explanes a lot , its funny but I emailed the seller three times during the bid process and no responce . I specificaly asked to see the bottom on the plane , no responce .

Oh well you win and you loose and this time its looks like I lost , but the plane in the pics still looks to have a nice fuse and overall a nice build model

if its remotly close to the P47D i got, then it should be pretty nice. im just trimming the wells out and shaveing the wood go get my rets to fit nicely. so far so good, ive only had to trim about a 1/16 in a few spots to get the ret to drop into place, and then a 1/8 trim around the mount area to open the balsa skin enough for the ret to sit flush. i ll take a few pics and post up in a few.

Tim , my biggest concerns are that he got my payment via paypal yesterday and still ono word on shipping . In the past when buying RC on e-bay I always get a shipping update .

Secondly I hope your correct and that there is a cavaity buried in the wing for retract , I hate to do major surgery to a solid wing or open structure
