Default Spitfire Arf

Ok guys looking for some suggestions, ideas, pros & cons, on this.

I'm in need of a Spitfire Arf prefer at least a 65" W.S.
I have done a few google searches and found some, but I'm now coming to the experts for your opinions.

I would prefer a mark 9 or earlier version.

Cheers

Go for the KMP (ESM) MK XIX Spitfire, 72" span glass fuse, good quality for an ARF, designed for a 1.20 four banger.

I threw one together as a "daily hack warbird" added some invasion stripes and panel lines and weathering and it looks quite good, flying weight is around 13.5 lbs and 1.20 pulls it around beautifully. No bad habits, peforms nice big loops and barrel rolls, spins etc and the flaps work a treat, the only mod required was to shim the u/c to get the gear further forward to prevent nose over during taxying and takeoff (which still requires delicate elevator control)

I haven't taken any pics as yet but here are a couple from other guys on RCU who have built the same.

cheers

Alan

I'm finishing up a Spit by World Models (.60 size) and it is coming together very well. Retracts and flaps are included.

The World Models Spit is also not a Mark 9 or earlier, and the .60 size version is sorely missing the beautiful and graceful wing fairings.

Well the KMP spit looks better than the world models spit (pics on web sites only)

You guys with the kmp stuff how do you like them? I have heard a few people have problems with their customer service here in Canada.

I may have to see if I can buy a built kit off of someone, or pick a different plane to fly[:'(]

Anyway keep the suggestions coming.

The KMP spit has scale outline and looks "much" better than the World Models Spit. Either go to YT International website or KMP website and watch some videos of this Spit in action. It is a very nice flying ARF.

G'day Alan

yep your little Spitty is ace !.....in my view the best looking ARF Spitfire available.......I needed something that resembles a Spit while I build a 96" Mk IX

The only down side is that we had to wait a further six months before they were available here in Australia (we only got them here in July and in very limited numbers!)

BTW

Apologies I meant a Mk XIV (not XIX)

Also ........ any word on the Typhoon ????

G'day Cobber ??????.......only in the cheesy movies (usually with Paul Hogan in a crocodile skin hat and a big knife)....no it's usually G'day mate..... a general greeting... a bit like the the Pommy version ...."or roit then " response "yeah oor roit" (I lived in "bleedin bloody" Watford for a couple of years and became well acustomed to the various British "dialects")

Took a look at your site....I assume the Typhoon will be around the same size as the Spit @ 72" ???....unfortunately we will have to wait until at least mid next year (if in fact we ever see it here).....any hint on what the other warbirds will be ......obviously a FW-190...maybe a P40??....any multi engines ????

cheers

Alan

Cool video! What engine/muffler/prop combo are you using on your Spit?

The Sportsman Aviation Spit looks quite nice and flies really well. It's not scale enough to assign an exact mark but its sort of a IX, V & II hybrid. 64" I think. Not as nice as KMP/YT but you did say Mk IX or earlier. It might be hard to get though. I liked mine enough to buy another after I totalled it!

Spitmad, where did you get your YT spit? In Melbourne? I'd like to have alook at one.

Alan, I know the prototype YT Spit flew on an RCV90 but would it really fly well with an OS91FS or is a 120 preferable?

Well, bit of a funny one this, we LIKE the 91 rcv, for it gives a good, SCALE perfomance, and is the motor of choice for us, all the vids of the spit have this engine fitted, doesnt exactly hang around, does it? but guys are wanting more power, a 120 motor would be ok, bigger rcv motors are in development, all are nice, short engines, that will cowl well,

as for the hangar 51 scenario, cant say yet, but thing will be quite exiting, YT are trying to bring out 2 a year, i have my own list of favorites, including some british multis, nearer christmas, we will know more

as for availablity of the tiffy, cant help, i know KMP will be on the ball, but cannot speak for other importers GIVE THEM A KICK UP THE BUTT!!!

Hi Flying Canuk

The Spit belongs to Serge.....OS 1.20 four stroke with the stock muffler and a 15x8 apc prop

I have had two Sportsman Spits (both lost in mid-airs - formation flying !) and they were great (cheap too!) but not a patch on the ESM for scale appearance and durability of a glass fuse
Got my ESM Spit from Addies Hobbies in Carrum, also try Roj's in Fairfield or Col Taylor in Wagga......you may struggle as they were all snapped up pretty quickly!

cheers

Alan C. will the OS 91FS fit in the cowl of the YT Spit or will I still have to open it up for the rocker cover?

Alan SpitMad, bought my SA Spit from Roj and get fuel from Addie all the time. Where do you fly? I'm at SEMAC. (Unfortunately working in India at the moment but home next week. Pretty hard to track down any RC flying here. A distinct lack of disposable income!)
I wouldn't mind a look at an ESM/YT Spit in the flesh. Might be a bit hard to fit in the budget (read: get by her indoors!) as I just bought the Topflite kit, Robart retracts etc....

Funny you guys mentioned the sportsman aviation Spit. I just bought one used last week. Has a bit of damage to the wing, but should have it in the air shortly. I just want something a little bigger
