Mine will snap on the downside of a split S if I get too heavy handed on the elevator. Bigger airplane means bigger everything. Higher loops and split S's so that you have time on the downside to be gentle. At least that's my experience with her.

At the C/G setting that i have mine set at you would be hard pressed to get mine to snap .
Used to snap badly until i moved the balance forward , used to think that the beast had a bad fault ,
but really good now unless i get really slow, and i mean slow with flaps downand a 90 Deg cross wind .
Sharp pull up to avoid hitting the ground is clean with no hint of a snap at high speed .

Interesting Graeme! Will take a look at the possibility of moving mine forward. A heavier gasser hanging up there vs the 220 will help in that area.

I kinda think that theDLE 30 will, be lighter than the 220 you have in it now , that is how i found the c/g was out on mine .
Anyway you will be impressed just how much better it flies .

Graeme,

I just did some quick checking and I think you are correct. The Saito 220 is 40.5 ounces with the muffler. The DLE30 is 38.3 ounces with the muffler and ignition. The saito is 3.5hp and the DLE30 is 3.7hp. And a whole lot cheaper to run than glow fuel.

Thanks! This is giving me a lot to think about!

You can help get the Balance forward by using two batteries .
I usetwo 2800Li-ion Batteries with a Powerbox switch and a touch of lead (15 grams) to fine tune the setup , remembering you need a Nicad to run the box also .
you should get it spot on that way
I use about 300ma per flight , so you need large capacity cells for the servos and RX

Ok, just for clarification, you are saying to balance it 1" back from the leading edge of the wingtip not where the wing root meets the fuselage?
Is that correct?

Folks,

I'm considering the DLE 30... On my Saito 220 I'm using a Dave Brown Spinner that I will want to reuse with the DLE30. Not sure what adapter to get for that as I'm sure the threads are probably different.

Dave

Never mind, called Dave Brown Products and got the info...

Graeme or Capt G, I picked up a DLE 30 and wondered if you you had any pictures of how you mounted it to get the prop shaft in the middle? No lines on the firewall so I was just going to draw lines between the existing mount to place the X on the firewall and then do the same on a piece of paper of the DLE 30 mount extensions and then just overlay the X on the paper with the X on the firewall. The mount extensions end up right up against the fuse on the port side. Sound about right?

Find something to put in the fuse so you can hang it vertical. Then set the motor on the standoffs on the firewall with the spinner backplate on it and mark where the holes need to go.

Have you guys thought of the DLE 35? 10% more horsepower, rear-pointed exhaust. Thin profile. From what I read on TH the rear-pointed exhaust might be specifically for tuned pipes, so maybe not for this plane. But might be worth speaking to TH about.

Just had the maiden flight of my Frankie. It could not have went any better. Smooth climb out.and three clicks of down elevator was the only trimming needed.
PTE36 engine ran great. Robart electric retracts worked and looked great. She settled right in for a smooth scale looking landing. Thanks for all the free advice on this forum.

Like he says
I turn 4 grub screws to a sharp point on one end , screw them into the standoffs , eyeball the spinner Smack it with a Hammer and job done

I can assure you that the Stab will not fall off if you fit a wooden Dowel in the tube, then fit the screws, glue them in with Cyno .
Mine have been in for years .
Poor thing is falling apart from all the use it has had .

Gentlemen - not to revive such an old thread - but looking for a cowl for this bird. I recently acquired this old gal and am toying with idea of a different engine than the included DLE 30. If anyone has one laying around. please let me know. Thanks Scott
