I am interested in making scasle hinges for my next project. I have used all the commercially made hinges but the "joint" just dosen't look right. Is it the hinges or the way I build the elevator. The hinges i use work well they just don't look like the hinges on a real plane.. Can any body give me any suggestions

what plane are you going to build, the type of scale hinge is very dependent on the plane and in some cases the scale of the plane in terms of practicality of making certain types of hinges.

Hi Mike, I am building a ziroli Corsair. I believe the wingspan is 93 inches. I am concerned basicly with the ailerons and elevators. The flaps are already set up. I have tried to recess the elevator into the stabilizer and that seems to only limit the travel. I tried a thin strip of thin plywood and that had this had the same affect.

acerpal,
sounds like you may have your pivot point or hinge line too close to the trailing edge of the stab. If you move that point back and round off the leading edge of the elevator you should be able to hide the hinge line sucessfully. Even your thin ply strip may still work. i'll see if I can locate a sketch...
