I would like to build a larger scale Spitfire, but have been unable to find a kit or plans for a scale version. The TF kit does not have scale outlnes or landing gear, and the ARF's are not any closer. I would like a
larger (70 in or larger) early variant, Mk IX or earlier, with scale outlines and landing gear. A kit would be best as my scratch-building skills are somewhat lacking, but an easier plans-built airframe might be within my skill level. I have built many kits, but only two easy scratch-building projects. I know this may be a tall order to fill, but past experience has shown that RCU members are able to help with anything. Thanks for reading my thread, I hope someone out there might know where I can find my Spitfire!

Masteromodels-
Thanks for the offer, but I can't afford a project that big all at once. I wish I could because I've heard that is a beautiful aircraft.

The Yellow kit is very nice but represents a MkXIV Spit so does not fit your order exactly. The gear available from Yellow is very nice and I would recommend it for any 1/5 scale MkIX or later Spit. The Pica kit most closely resembles a MkIX but has quite a few scale innacuracies. Both the Yellow and the Pica Spits are great flyers. Mick Reeves in the UK makes a 1/6 scale (74 inch) MkIX kit which is available with either a built up or glass fuse and is quite accurate. Should you decide you want to try your hand at scratch building then Brian Taylor does an 83 inch MkVIII/MkIX which is probably the best available for accuracy. Bob Holman carries the plans, fiberglass cowl, canopy, spinner, and some laser cut wood parts. There may be a glass fuse and other accessories available for this one as well. (Vic????) There are a number of others available in the UK, the DB and Rawle designs coming to mind. A bit of research should find you what you're looking for. Best of luck with it.

Chad-
Thanks for the advice. I think I'm going to look into the Brian Taylor version as I have heard nothing but good reviews of his airplanes.

Daywalker, you won't regret the extra effort needed to produce the Taylor airplane. I have two of his 83 inch Spits waiting in the wings right now. If you decide to go for it then RCU member "Shindin" can hook you up with some nice gear for a great price.

Daywalker,
I have a set of lenny's retracts and can vouch for their quality! great guy to deal with as well. I'm currently working on the 83" Taylor spitfire as Chad mentioned, and am documenting it's progress in the 'projects' section of my website if you're interested.

Daywalker, yes check out Sean's site. Very good pics.
Do a search here in the warbirds section and you will
find a thread on my Taylor Spitfire I'm building as well.
My first scale plane, not as bad as I thought. There
are plenty of guys here to help with questions

If you want to build the Taylor Spitfire with a glass parts you can check out my website.
I have not updated my Spitfire page, but Bob Holman and I have worked out a deal for me to sell the glass parts. Sorry I have not updated my Spitfire page in a while but I will soon.
Cheers!

You can't go wrong with the Spitfire stuff that Vic/Scott offer.... i have the spit, and also the laser cut ribs & such, put them in a pile and you're looking at one nice kit! Not to mention, he offers the shorter nose for the MkI/II, which i have always preferred... don't guess i need to mention what gear mine gets.....
here's a pic of the glass stuff, in case anyone hasn't seen it, the glasswork is flawless, i couldn't find a single pinhole....

I'm not sure exactly what Vic was charging, but i remember it was very reasonable.... of course, i didn't have to pay shipping, as Scott Raines brought it with him on his trip to Atlanta, and i drove up there to get it (don't ask me why we didn't meet halfway!!).
Of course, mine shown above isn't for sale, it's just for anyone who hasn't seen them.... i also have the fw190a they made a couple of, and am planning (fingers and toes crossed) on getting one of the '38's when the time comes..... (that's a hint for Vic, in case he's still following this!!....)

Burning the midnight oil on the P38, so far its half molded, I need to do the other half this weekend.
Lenny - once the P38 is done! We always can work it out as planned....
In a couple of weeks time, be ready to make the gears for the P38, I will send specs. Very nice Spit gear too, I can't wait to see a P38 gear!
Sean, YOU THE MAN! I really like them pics and write-up... well worth my time making the glass parts! EXCELLENT WORK! You'll be done in 3 months.
Todd (Burl) - We have a giant scale meet in about 3 weeks, maybe you can bring your spit for show and tell at the basin? Would love to see the progress.
Daywalker, which version are you planning on building? I am thinking about making another mold for a MK1 instead of a modified my Mk9 mold to make a MK1 as I have done in the past.
Also, I am going to have the parts come out as gray color... see next post...
with carbon fibers to boot!
Chad!
I want to see both spits in the air! hint hint..

Thanks Vic for the vote of confidence! I'm enjoying the build and the planning so far with the spit. I'm sure it will encourage me to tackle more f/g fuses in the future...at least not be so intimidated by them as I was before.
Todd, I checked it out, I'm only 2740 miles from you....mapquest says I can be there in a mere 45 hours 12 mins! :spinnyeye
