Dave
Still undecided with the colour scheme. I was thinking of the Royal Navy colours, in the picture, redone flying museum piece, or a weathered to death corsair from the Pacific.

RE: Byron Corsair Build
Hey Peter, been a while. Thanks for the comments Dave and Peter. B-58 Hustler.......sweet build, with turbines I pressume.
I will leave the fabric area's as is. The illusion is what I am looking for. I hope to get the ailerons glued in tonight, so I can carry on with the flaps.
Its freezing out, so the basement is the place to be.

RE: Byron Corsair Build
It seems to be alot warmer down under
Glued in the ailerons with some gorilla glue. Just had to rotate while it set up, so far so good. Also started working on some panel line detail on the tail section.

RE: Byron Corsair Build
Finished up the panel lines on the fuselage tonight to include the emphanage. Still need to do some work on the bottom, in the landing gear area, that can come later, as well as the tail wheel doors. It has warmed up to -14 C so I decided to turn on the heat in the garage
Sprayed primer on the panel area's of the fuse and tail. In a couple of days I will sand it back and remove the panel line tape. I can see many hours of rivets in my future.

Not to sure about the retract doors. Will probably do them a bit later.
Removed the panel line tape this morning. the primer has set up well. This will give the edges some time to harden up.
After it is set I will begin working on the rivets, then sand with 400 wet for a smooth finish. That should keep me busy for a while.

I was taking out the garbage and realized that I had a few cans of primer that were not totaly empty. I decided to give the cowl a prime coat to find the pin holes etc. Now I will need to fill and sand the minor imperfections.

RE: Byron Corsair Build
Started burning in the rivets with my trim Iron tool and template. Started on the flaps, she will be a long process. After the rivets are burned in, a light wet sanding with some 400 grit paper, will knock down any high spots, and smooth the finish. These rivets are only slightly noticeable on the aircraft so the sanding should give me the effect I am looking for. When I used this technique on my P-47, it turned out very nice.

RE: Byron Corsair Build
Hey Craig,
It looks like you left the chart tape on for your panel lines. Are you removing it or will the lines remain raised. I'm trying to decide which look to go for.

The chart tape has been removed. It looks like it is still on, but that is the build up of the primer. After I rivet, I will go over the area with some wet 400 grit paper which will smooth it out nicely. If you remove the tape, you will end up with a nice recessed line. If you leave the tape on, it will be a raised line.
Depends on what you want to achieve, as well with the tape removed, there is never any chance of your panel line removing over time.

RE: Byron Corsair Build
Hey Craig great work on the Byron. I am building one as well and i have a question for you and the guys. The diagrams I have been able to see of the Corsair only show the rivets being from the Canopy area forward and none on the wings or fuse from that area back. Can you or anyone shed any light on this ? Once again great work on the Corsair. Kevin.

The Corsair has tons of rivets. The ones you are probably are refering to are the large screws used to hold on the major panels on the front of the fuselage. Just do a search on google, for Corsair pictures, and you wll see there are many.
The next question, is how many do you want or need to do, which is basically up to the modeller. Post pics of your bird, we all want to see what you are doing.

RE: Byron Corsair Build
Started doing the rivets on the horizontal stab. The bottom is done on the starboard side, 3 more to go [>:] As you can see in the second picture, they look a little rough. A going over with some 400 wet paper will smooth out the rivets and remove the light pencil guide lines.

RE: Byron Corsair Build
Spent alot of time today on the tail section. Tons of work but I am happy. She is slowly coming to life. I put the elevators and rudder on just to see the complete look. It still requires wet sanding. That will come later.
