I am using my 2 gallon compressor and small badger airbrush. I will put a second coat on this evening using my touch up gun. I am using Model Masters enamel paint. This paint goes on so well, and it comes in the FS # that I need.

The Canopy is held on with some very small screws so I can remove it when I need to get in there.
Yes it has turned out pretty good so far.
I mounted the engine and cowl, just to have a look.

Craig the way your progressing on this build you'll have to attach skis for your maiden flight ,because knowing you you'll be vibrating a lot to get it in the air looks great . probably stop in this weekend to check it out

Put the landing gear in, mounted the engine and cowl. It looks good sitting there on the bench.
I am looking forward to painting the wings next.

RE: Byron Corsair Build
Rubbed the fuselage down to highlight some of the panel lines and rivets. This ties in the paint to a smooth finish, and gives it a warn, and used look.

Some unsolicitaed input from me: I've been flying Byron's Corsair for a couple of years now. (Q-52 w/PurrPowr, 23#)
It is balanced inverted with the gear up at 5 1/4" back from the leading edge. It's a bit nose heavy with the gear down but it flies great.
Craig,
That looks Marvelous! What was your technique to rub down the paint?
Thanks!

I have not done any balancing as of yet. I did a rough weigh the other day just picking it up and standing on a scale. Complete it is roughly 24-25 lbs.
I still need to install the tail wheel linkage, and a few adds and sods before i start the balancing process.
Scott
I used wet sandpaper, to slowly cut down the paint and give it a smooth finish. I started with some 400 grit, took down the areas I wanted exposed, then sanded the entire plane with 1500 wet paper. It makes a good mess, and cleans up easy. I still need to paint the wings and do the same process to them before more weathering takes place.
I am happy with the results. The Model Masters paint is excellent to apply, and it wet sands real well. The paint has a few different tones to it at this stage, however after clearcoating, it will all blend well.

RE: Byron Corsair Build
Started working on the wing paint this evening. I applied the Insignia White on the top of the port wing, and on the bottom of the starboard wing.
I will let this cure for a few days, then apply the masking to cover up the white.
I will then proceed with the painting of the Dark Sea Blue after that. Normaly the inside blue of the roundel is painted with Insignia Blue, however it does not make a difference to me so I am just going with the Dark Sea blue.

RE: Byron Corsair Build
The roundels have been drawn out on the wings.
The wings are masked and plan on getting the bottoms painted this evening, and the tops tomorrow. Then I will remove the masks.

Painted the tops of the wings this morning. Just finished doing a few touch ups, and hope to remove the roundel maskings later this evening.

RE: Byron Corsair Build
Removed the roundel masks. The majority of the painting is complete. I still need to rub it down in a few days, then I can start the weathering process.
Placed the wings in the folded position, attached the cowl and prop, as well as the two antennias.

Sorry I can't help you out with your question. I am sure some of the guys who follow along on this thread, should be able to help.
The length of control rods for the elevator and rudder have concerned me. A fellow modeler told me another guy lost a Corsair due to the elevator rod breaking in flight due to vibration and flexing. I dont want that to happen to me so I modified the fuselage on the inside. I braced the control rods using some balsa, which should reduce the vibrations, and flexing that takes place. They are roughly 3 feet long so there would be quite a bit of flexing.

I have about 35 degrees deflection, I will double check.
I am going to do a balance tonight. I will use your method inverted, as well as the byron method using the small holes in the side of the fuse.

RE: Byron Corsair Build
I am going to need to add some weight to the front end. I will think on the best position. I am not a fan of putting weight in the cowl, causes to much stress on the cowl. I will probably make small lead blocks and secure them to the front, just behing the firewall ring, as far forward as possible.
