I got chased out of the house with a bat and told NO WAY in my new oven. I am doing it in our gas grill outside where it's safe. It will go up to around 400 degrees. I hope that will do. You were right Bob!!!

I cooked the exhaust for 3 hours and the grill got up to 400 degrees. The paint seems different now that it's baked on and doesn't seem like it will scratch easily. I made a set of chocks for using on my work table in the garage so I can set the plane down lengthwise and it will be pretty much out of the way. The table is only 36" wide and the stance is 38". I'll also use them for transporting it when I get her done and flying. I still need to work on the exhaust ports so I have at least 3/16" gap all around for glass and paint. Plus a little extra for heat. I'll shape them when I am doing that. I need to do some more research to see just how they are on the full scale F4U-5N Corsair. I ordered some #0x3/16" allen head screws so I can finish up on the cowl's cooling flaps and put that on. I also ordered some #2x3/8" allen head screws for the windscreen so I can get that working.

I finished the left side exhaust port and started applying Evercoat very thin over the planking for a smooth formed finish for the glass. I hope to be doing that soon. I just need to epoxy in the stab and fin and do a little more planking and do the fillet under the rudder. Oh yeah and the tail cone. I figure the Evercoat might add a pound to the overall fuse at the most after it's mostly sanded off.

I finished sanding and forming my exhaust indentations and smoothed out the long turtle deck on the left side of the plane. I worked some more on the cowl's cooling flaps and am about ready to put in the dividers that cover the open gaps. The flaps will be set open to 25 degrees of the 30 total movement.

I'm afraid to use it now that Solo is nowhere to be found. Carl is really hiding out on us. I think that stinks. Even if he didn't sell anymore props he should at least make replacement parts for us that bought his high priced product before the law suit. I wish I could get my hands on the baby that is suing him! How do you spell suit as in law suit?

same here for my p-40....! mine is going to have to be just for static untill i get a hold of access to one of those 3-d copying CNC machines.. i hear they can copy a part with in thousand's . the rest of the tolerance you fix on the final part.. Im looking into it.

Thats good news 77! I have been working on my cowling's cooling flaps and am about half way home. Then it's time to make a mold for the scoops on the sides of it for the turbo charger on the 5N model Corsair.

I'm finished with the cooling flaps and just need to epoxy the nuts so they don't come loose when I cut them off. I tried it before doing the epoxy and a nut went flying.

I'm continuing to work on the modifications to my regular cowling to make it scale for a F4U-5N. I still have to do some more putty now that I gave it a shot of primer. Now I can see defects that need attention. But at least the cooling flaps are done and I am now onto the turbo charger scoops. I made one out of clay and after it dries I'll sand it putty it fair and then prime and paint it. Then brush on mold release and put on the fiberglass cloth. Once I have two scoops that will be the same I'll remove the hardened clay however hard that will be and add the fiberglass scoops. They will be fiberglassed on and then faired in with putty to fix any voids. I'm not an artist so this is the best I can do. Once the scoops are on I'll make them funtional to aid in cooling the twin cylinder engine so I don't have to remove any of the dummy radial cylinders.

I removed the clay mold from my cowl and then covered it in fiberglass cloth so I would be able to make a smooth finish that I could paint and then use Evercoat's Mold Release so the parts will come off easy. It gets painted on heavy and let dry overnight and then it's ready for making a part. So it will take a few days before the parts are ready to be put on the cowl. I am going to draw around the parts and then leave about 1/2" all around on the inside and dremel out the rest for cooling air. The fron of the part where it is solid on the mold will be removed and then rounded in with some glass.

Well I have my parts and they are taped on the cowl where they go. The areas blacked out will be removed before I glass the scoops on for cooling and scale reasons. Thanks for the scoops Winston. Oh yeah I scraped the mold I made because these were the perfect fit after some dremmel work by my friend Andy.

I've decided to make that one a F4U-7 so I don't have two of the same plane. The 7 doesn't have a scoop that I'm aware of.

I finished the scoops except for sanding the putty smooth after it cures. I cut ou large holes almost the size of the scoops for air to get to the heads on my twin. This way I won't have to remove any of the dummy radial cylinders. Here it is in it's rough form. I then will prime it and finish doing whatever filling I need so it's ready for paint when I decide on the perfect color.

I sanded the white putty to final shape and now spread glazing putty on to cover pin holes and imprefections. Here is a picture of Guy Bordelon's Corsair and it shows the scoops. Then there is mine and I am just about as close as I can come. I probably will fair the sides out more to look more like his.

While waiting for the putty to dry on the cowl scoops I decided to work on my front rails for my sliding canopy. I had them with the slot facing out but it wasn't scale so I changed it and added a 1/8" strip of balsa to take up the space on the outside of the rail. I used Evercoat to make it smooth. I sure will be happy when the fuselage is glassed and out of the ugly stage.
