Default Pica Spitfire Mk IX

Hey there,
I want to buy the Pica Spitfire 1:5 (http://www.picaweb.com/)
I just wanted to ask you guys what you think of it, how it flies (if you got it ) and what kinda engine I should put in there (on the Pica website it says a .35 - .41 gaser... I think thats a BIT not enough)...
well thanks

Jakob

I own one and it flys really well with a Moki 1.8. It has Yellow retracts and tires/ wheels. I say go for it. Regards G.

Hi again,
thanks for the replies...
I also think that they ment a 41cc gasser... I just can't imagine a 1/5 warbird with a .41 gasser
but also the prices on the Pica website aren't right... they say the kit is 330 (or so) but on hobby barn it is 220 and on another website it is 180 bucks!
oh well
ty for the help again

Default Spitfire

I built one and reviewed it for R/C REPORT. It is a good model that makes a good flyer if you build the tail light. If I were to do it again I would replace all of the fuselage formers aft of the wing with balsa instead of ply. I would also carefully select all of the wood for the tail. Mine needed 5 pounds of lead in the nose to balance and this is typical. Also you may want to move the landing gear so that the wheels end up even with the leading edge when retracted.

Hope this info helps.

Hi Dave,
thanks alot for the tipps...
5 pounds is a lot WHEW... I think I'm just putting a bigger engine in there... a 3w 75i or so j/k
I'm going to try replacing the ply with balsa (what you said)...

thanks again

wow...3W 75 is a huge engine for the Pica Spit....I flew mine on a Moki 1.8 at 28 pounds and it flew great...needed 5 pounds of lead in the nose to balance but the plane was beautiful....I run a 3W 60 on my Vailly Hurricane at 30 pounds and that is plenty....

Default 41cc

I think you you would surprised with something like a ZDZ40 or 3W-42 in it. There was a top-name scale guy that flew a Yellow A/C Spitfire with a G-38...

Mine will be powered by ST3000 and I definitely think that a G45 would be adequate power for the plane, which, with gas power requires firewall modification. A G62 will not fit inside the cowling, may have better results with a rear exhaust motor. Others have used the BME motor for use with beam mounts with good results. I think a G62 would be a bit overpowered, but, yes, any power choice will probably result in adding nose weight. Use Shindin retracts, I don't think you'll be disappointed in the way they fly. Several at my field and they are spectacular to watch, look very easy to fly.

Heres a shot of the instrument panel I created from scratch. Not exactly scale, but close enough for free.
