Bates P-40
I framed one up for a customer although I can't recall who it was that cut the kit. As far as the plans go I found them to be very well done with good parts fit. The glass parts are a bit rough but not too bad and certainly useable. Can't help with the retracts. The units I installed were custom made elecrtric retracts and the company that produced them is no longer in business. The older Bates plans show a Dave Platt unit which has to be modified by Robinaire to rotate. I think he has since updated the plans to show CJM units. I would go with the Platt and have them modified before I would send any more money to CJM but that's just my .02 cents. At some point I would like to do one for myself but I would do the B/C model. Best of luck with it.

In fact I had read somewhere that the Yellow P-40 was based off of the Bates plans. I can't speak to the credibility of what I read, but I just thought I would add this as food for thought.

Paul, I wouldn't be surprised if that wasn't the case.. But I don't know the facts either.. I do know that Yellow has built planes that others were offering first... such as the P-47 and Zero from Bert Baker... No reason to reinvent the wheel .. if you have a good wheel!!.. Regards BobH.

If the P-40 is up to the same standard as there other warbird kits I would not hesitate to build the Yellow. Of course, if dollars are a consideration the built up version would be somewhat cheaper I imagine although your time investment would be substantially more.
