Soooo busy! Not much time for planes anymore. I still get out every once in a while and hang out with Boyd (Maser) and Steve (Warbirdrcer), but not nearly as often as I would like. And most of the time when I go out to the field I don't take a plane with me. Yes, poor Noah!
That said, all is going well for my wife and me here in our new locale. Appreciate the inquiry!
I'll still be watching for updates here, Chic.
All the best to you, and Shirley, too.
Noah

Chic,
Glad to see you found the Avenger under all the other build stuff in your shop.
Hope you guys enjoyed the links I sent yesterday I figured it would keep you busy when you get tired of building.
Noah, sorry to hear about you being busy, I miss seeing your posts, but as long as you have Boyd and Steve I'm sure you will have something to fly when you visit the field.
Avenger update, the last 2 weekends were a total washout due to strong winds and my cohort, trying to get in the last few weekends on his boat before the weather changes totally.
I am hoping I can get him to the field the weekend after this so we can get a couple of more flights in before the cold weather sets in.
Chic, I haven't forgotten about the c119, I'm thinking right after I retire next Feb I'll be coming for a visit and to see the progress on the Avenger.
Charlie, I hope you're feeling better and making additional headway on the tracker.... I think with the Trojan, Chics c119 and the hope of scratch building the E2C, I won't be able to con my loving??? wife into another plane.
Finally making some headway on the Trojan, fitting the ailerons and getting them to sit on the same plane as the flaps. Will post some pix this weekend.
Take Care
Larry

Charlies' Design Is Impressive
Charlie,
Wow, still can not get over the size of this puppy. Very impressive and all the guys talk about how great she flies. Can't wait. First on the construction task list is:
1. Fixing the hangar rash on both wing panels
2. Microballooning the outer wing panels joint with the center wing panel.
3. Cut in the right wing air dam, position light, and wheel well in outer panel.
Will report back to you fellows when the above is completed. Charlie, when I put the panels together, I can't stop saying WOW. Chic

Chic,
It certainly is a BIG puppy and draws tons of attention at the field as soon as you put the wings on
Just remember unless you're driving a tractor trailer it's tough to get to the field LOL
Can't wait to see more pix

Hangar Rash
Pictures, "THE MAN" asked for pictures. Shirley told me to get out there to the shop and get that man those pictures. You ready for this, she said the repairs look "CUTE". I said to her, whose side are you on. I'm taking her to the Florida Keys for Easter. Just so I can experiment with flying jets while I am there. Smile. Now that is a Spring Break to remember. It really feels good being back to work on the Avenger. Chic

Hey guys as you can see in photo 1, a portion of the outer wing panel is smaller in one place then the wing end rib that matches the center wing panel end rib. I was planning on laying down microballons in the area or some balsa wood build up to sand either option out to contour smoothly back into the panel. Guys, what do you think about each idea. The other wing panel came out perfect. Chic

Chic,
Repairs look awesome, tell Shirley that CUTE is not an RC term.
Either is a good fix, I would go with the micro balloons, we actually glassed the wing and then hit the low spots with red body putty or you could use light spackle, won't add any weight for such a small foot print. The body putty sands great and takes primer real well.
We micro ballooned the wing panels where they meet so we got a nice tight fit (not as tight as we would have liked) but you can't tell from 400 feet.
Spring Break, okay that means I'll have to time my visit for Daves' and the c119 before that since I'm hoping to be out of here by June, G*D willing and the creek don't rise.
Anyway awesome fix on the rash, I'll post some pix tonight on the progress of the Trojan wing...

Thanks Larry. I too 2nd the microballoons technique and will follow your lead. The above photos show my focus area today. Some of the false ribs need repairing but it seems to be coming along fairly well. I told Shirley what you said and that she will have to wear alllllll her clothes while walking around the beaches of the Florida Keys. She is still laughing at the two of us. Now on to the outer right wing panel (wheel well, position light, etc.). Hey is Charlie well, I reread your comment above about him. May have to holler at him. Chic

Red Tail... best breakfast in Key West is Harpoon Harry's. I forget what the street was but it isn't a far walk from the Navy Lodge.
Good grits and coffee. You'll wait a bit but the weather makes it OK.

CHIC, The fix looks great! I am looking forward to seeing you button up the wings and move on to the fuse. I recommend you store the finished wings on Aunt Shirleys dining room coffee table to avoid any chance of additional hangar rash! I'm sure Aunt Shirley will forget all about this post before I make my way back to your neck of the woods! Looks great, keep going!

You guys are encouraging, really appreciate it. Ranger, you know if I bring those parts into the house, they will be moved and dusted daily. Would probably get even more hangar rash. Smile. Needless to say, Kinner, you have Shirley even more wired up. She just added that place to her list. She likes to make lists. Trust me, we will eat there. Noah, thanks for speaking with Boyd about those great rivets on his T-28. Many thanks. Chic

Peter, just wanted you to know that a friend of mine, Rick Moreland, brought back 6 pictures of your Avenger from Toledo that I constantly refer to for severe motivation. What a beautiful model. You have certainly set the bar for us to follow. I'm certainly reaching for it. Chic

Chic,
I like Rangers idea about where to store the wings, tell Shirley if she allows it you will upgrade to the motel room with indoor plumbing when you go to the Keys...heheheh
Here's a couple of shots of the Trojan wing.... you may notice the light spackle on the aileron and flap
