We are going electric on ours. Down and Locked is doing the conversion. We will use their control system.

By the way..... those who are using the Moki 250 engine in this plane, what are they doing to avoid the exhaust manifold nuts getting loose after a couple of flights ? High temp loctite ? Wiring ?

Yes. We have a 50lb. Meister P-47 converted to electric. We have servos on the gear doors as well.

here is a picture of the gear converted, next to the original air cylinder. Keep in mind that the motor also has a transmission connected to it!

Here is a video of the down and Locked conversion to our 102" P-47 with the servo operated gear doors as well. Notice the built in scale stagger that is also possible with this system.

Guys flew our new Corsair this week. We have the Moki 215 with a 29x12 three blade. Two flights and very little trim. No flutter issues on several full power passes, plane flys very well has a good scale speed and good vertical. We had no gear issues and the folding wings work great. Still working out a few minor bugs but the plane is awsome. Here are a few photos of her after the first flight. Note the lousy weather in the background, we had to scrub the day due to strong thunderstorms and a 20mph cross wind. Mike

Wow, The Bird looks awesome! Do you have any photos of How you installed the Guns on the bird. I want to add that to mine also. I just have not found any photos of how to make and install them.

Great looking bird!

I used two brass tubes one inside of the other and drilled the holes in the wing using a scale photo as a referance.

Looks like we will maiden ours (Moki 250, Solo prop) a week from Sunday. Curious, what are the 'bugs' you have to work out? Are you using 1 or 2 servos on the elevators? What is your all up weight?

Sorry for all the questions.

Bugs were main wheels rubbing on gear struts, had to space them out with a couple of washers. The tail wheel is working on a pull pull system and when the wheels are off the ground the cables for the tail wheel steering are tight. When the plane is on the gear the tail wheel springs back and that allows the cables for the steering to have slack. So we tightened the cables. Also the door on top of the right wing that covers the opening when the wing folds was opened during the flight from the wind getting under it so I tightened up the spring that holds it shut. Really didnt have any other problems. Like I said we were woried about the Moki overheating and it ran perfect, also heard alot about flutter but we had none on several full throtle passes. Balance was perfect and plane needed little in the way of trim. It took about 8 clicks of down elevator with the flaps down. Flew very scale and the sound is awsome. Two elevator servos and dont know the wieght. Mike

Thank you for the report. I'll keep those issues in mind on ours.

I can't figure out how the 2 doors on top of the wing panel work. Do you use a servo to open and close them?
Could you possibly show some close up pics of your doors setup.
I'm kind of scratching my head on how to install them.
Thanks!
Kevin

Here is how one modeler did it. I plan to use the same set up.

Thats a little different than mine. Sierra sells a front wing hinge that is modified so you dont have to make the flap in the front of the wing. I used a 2" long spring on the mid wing hinged flap to hold it closed when the wing is down and it rides up on the center wing when you fold the wing. I can get some photos tomorrow when I get home. If you havent cut the front of the wing yet don't do it. Get the modified hinge from Sierra its easier and lookes better that having the front flap.

I built a saftey into the folding wing assembly. In the event that I have a pump or hydraulic line failure on the wing mechanism I have put a safteyl lock on both wings. After the wing is dowm I engage this large air cylinder that pushes its ram threw holes I have drilled into the aluminum wing mechanism. I hope that it would prevent the wing from folding in the event the mechanism were to fail. When the lock is engaged the wing can't move without sheering off the ram on the air cylinder. When the plane lands I retract the ram and fold the wing. Mike
