I've had 2 Zeros since my last post. I've used electric retracts in both and they held up very well. My first Zero is a pile of balsa but my second one is ready to recover in something other than the 'shelf paper' used by VQ. Other than than, it's a big hit at the field and flies well.

Also, which electric retracts are you using?
thanks in advance!

Moose,
The 5S batteries are right up against the firewall. I used thick foam (about 1/4 inch) to cushion the batteries against the firewall. Unfortuantely, I do have to remove the wing to swap batteries. It a slight pain but not bad at all. I used the NitroPlanes/Hobby Partz retracts. The Hobby People ones are the same. I would use them again because there is no real set up and there is aggrevation with a retract servo. I just couldn't get the servo linkages just right and they would always bind and I would hate to ruin the plane because of that. So I used the e-retracts. I understand that E-Flite makes agood pair as well. As for the CG, mine was as printed in the manual. The Rimfire .46 and the 5S balanced perfectly. I did use stand-offs to make the cowl and motor line-up correctly. Another flyer at the field did not and he had to add A LOT of weight up front to get it to balance. I hope this helps.

Jack, thanks so much. It turns out I already have a pair of these:

and I got the struts from VQ, so I should be good there.
I have a Scorpion 4020-10 for 5S...now I just need to figure on a prop, but that can be decided later.
I'll probably use an Arm Safe type plug and run an exterior balance extension so I can charge with the pack in the plane.
thanks again for your help!
