BTW guys, I was talking to Mitch, and we just may be trying his new break system on Zombie. I'll keep you all posted on this. We are considering his new air control system for the Corsair. It does NOT require air supply tanks in the airframe. Very interesting.
Zombie will also have the newly upgraded gear control box, now powered with a 2 cell lipo. 5.9V was the optimal power to the original box. More speed to the giant gear will be nice. We have a 4200mah Lipo for this purpose. Should need a charge maybe once a summer.

Here is the wings all fixed. Just need to do some painting. The new main gear doors are built and will be fitted as soon as the gear comes back. Bruce is fitting our struts with the newer yokes, so some adjustment will be needed on the mounting of them.
The aluminum foil is fairly easy to fix and re-rivet.
The cowl took a hit but with the 'Steel Powder' in the ring, all it did was add a few scratches below the chin. No structural damage. I will leave the scratches. More weathering.
We have a local fly in coming up in a couple weeks and hope this is all done by then. We are way behind in our flying this year due to the horribly wet spring we had.[]

Hi Gary, I have been watching your thread for quite sometime. The plane is Awesome !!Sorry to hear about the gear damage. I have been building a Meister p47. I too am a fan of aluminum finish. It;s pretty close to being done. Here are some pics.

Glad you are enjoying the thread Rick. Thank you.
And thank you for contributing with those wonderful pictures. She is looking sweet indeed. Nice job on the exhaust too. Please feel free to post more as you work on it. We do love our Meister P-47s here.
A tip on the foil we were given at Toledo by the Builder of that famous Russian Bear, and other foil jobs (George Maiorana). We had the privilege of meeting him and talking with him about scale building and in particular, the use of foils finishes. Sand the foil with 400 wet/dry after application and before too much detail is etched in. If you look closely, you will see the very slight 'orange peel' no matter how well you burnish it. This is due to the adhesive on the back. There is a limit to how even they can apply it. Sanding the aluminum removes this effect.
It was too late for Zombie. If we ever refinish her with a different scheme, we will do this. I'll be doing it on all future foil jobs. You can still mask and rub out different panels in different directions after this first step.
Here is a link to George's build thread on the Bear, for those who might like to see his techniques. He is an award winning builder. www.scaleaero.com/maiorana_elec_scale.htm
I spoke with Mitch at D&L today, and he will have our gear fixed by Monday or Tuesday. CJM still has the struts. I'm sure they will be going to Mitch about the same time. He needs to have them to set the timing and stagger. Looks like we will make our next event, no problem.

Registration at 8:00, flying at 9:00, open flying at 5:00.
As Sam would say on his 'road trips', 20 miles for me.
Here is the fix to the culprit in the accident with Zombie. Brian made a new throttle arm out of G-10 type material.
I'm also including a picture of the new Hacker motor that is going in the Aeroworks P-51. It is equivalent to the 3W80 in the back ground, with enough cells!! It will swing a 24 X 10 at 10,000 RPM!!!!!
Will have two 6cell batteries on board, and two 2000 A123s for the radio.

Just a heads up, Frank posted this today on his site.

Tough choice, to be sure. We are committed to MP for this year. Brian already planned vacation time for it.

Hi Wayne
The engine is a D&B 5.1 (83cc). The covering is simply 6" foil tape I found on Ebay. I like the out come. I have done 2 other planes (p-51's) with it. True, as Gary stated, the surface can have an orange peel type effect, but the over all look is cool !! People love it !!!! Just started adding the Paint scheme (custom for the owner).
BTW, I just contacted you for the price of 4 p-51 style prop blades. One of our club members has a Zero with your system. While I find it top notch, It is just alittle to expensive just for a static display. Thanks for your time !!!!

Exciting. I don't think I will be able to make two trips to Florida this fall though. I hate to miss this. I can only imagine what classy Frank Tiano will do with an event such as this.

I don't think I will make it either. Another employee has those dates slotted for his vacation. But Monster Planes is full steam ahead. So far I've been to all the Monster Plane events and have had a great time.

Brian had to choose his vacation time in January, so he chose the first week in October, last years time frame. When Frank made it the second week, it tripped him up a little. He is hoping to still get that week off. He thinks it will be OK. I hope so.

Congrats on the maiden as well. Looking forward to seeing it in person.
Is Alex going to replace his P-47, or is the Mustang it?
You can be sure, if we lived closer, we wouldn't miss the new event. You begin to appreciate more the effort Frank puts into his events when you travel around a bit. Not that other CDs don't work hard, but Frank takes it to another level, IMO. I haven't totally given up on it yet, but realistically, it is doubtful.
Zombie is coming along and so is the new Corsair. Hope to maiden it in a couple weeks. The Aeroworks P-51 will ready even sooner. All we need is batteries now, and I ordered them over the week end.
Brian is doing much better. Almost back to normal except for an occasional; rush to the bathroom. He goes in for a second operation the first week in August. Hopefully that, and treatments will take care of the problem.
He will be a busy boy this summer. We decided to cover the new Corsair with aluminum before painting her. Surface detail and paint distressing will look much better that way. Much work, but worth it in our opinion.
Thanks for thinking of him and I'll keep you all posted.

Alex is working on a Ziroli Zero, but will repair the '47. They are practically giving away the full kits with the popularity of the ARF's, and we realized that the kit is a cheaper source of parts than ordering separately. The Mustang is mine, a combo of an old crashed wing with an ARC fuse that was laying around for years, and a G-62 I got for doing a dent .I had retracts from one that I had crashed about 7 years ago. Just like my Meister, it is a junkyard dog..........lol.......Doug
