Thanks 322. That is a Dummy radial . I think I got it from Frank Tiano. Tha inner doors are closed by the tire and a spring holds them open. But they are a pain to keep working right.

will do ! LOL thanks I appreciate the quick response and the sharing of your experience , all though I have built quite a few kits , arf , plan builds , etc I am a little new to warbirds , and that I found out that the amount of detail and scale that you can add to one of these is only limited by skill , imagineation and money , into which case allot of times the only thing I have going for me is the skill part LOL but i only need to see something done and i can pick up on it fairly quickly , So again thanks !

Ok so after making a few patterns a couple of prototypes , a few plugs later and finally getting to use my new vacuum forming machine , I have started to paint the different pieces that will make up the cockpit , Wow never realized how much work was involved in a little ol cockpit LOL , being that this is my first one I hope you all will be kind with your comments , I still have quite a bit to do lots of little misc parts still need to be carved and painted etc , I will post more pic when the cockpit is completed
this is my progress so far

RE: CMP 120 Zero ARF Build thread
I had searched high and low for a 1/6 scale cockpit for this zero , but everything that is out there is more for a 1/5 Ziroli or platt zero , So need less to say I had to scratch build something I had to improvise in some areas , and am working with a few pic and a couple of 3 views that I ran across , it is a very cumbersome and long process ,
first you have to take the pic of what you have and print as a black and white , then islolate the outline and scale it down to serve your purpose , in this case 1/6 , after which a plug has to be carved and or made , next you move on to actually vacuum forming the part ( I am vacuum forming most of the parts for the sake of keeping the weight down ) and this process has to be repeated at lest 100 times pending my last potential part count , any way hope you all enjoy !

RE: CMP 120 Zero ARF Build thread
Ok guys finally got around to finishing the cockpit , I wound up making allot more parts then I needed (or could actually fit I should say ) LOL I put this in with the concept of I did not want to cut out the existing servo tray or have to relocate servos to the tail , so I built the cockpit around existing structures I have hidden one servo and the receiver in the the font part of the floor , the finish product minus a little detail painting is complete . I went ahead and fabricated machine guns with arming handles ..... made from 1/8 aluminum tube , sorry guys but after working on the cockpit for almost a week I got a little lazy and omited the gun site , hope you all can forgive me LOL

RE: CMP 120 Zero ARF Build thread
Now I will be moving on to the three piece sliding canopy , per a tip from my buddy LDM I will be using a small plastic tube glued to the inside of the center sliding section that will slide onto a thin pushrod drilled and glued to each side of the fuse . Then I will the fit a small magnet and a thin piece of sheet stock to function as a latch ...... will post more pic when I get this fitted and working properly

RE: CMP 120 Zero ARF Build thread
Great news ! the lado retracts came in ! I decided to redo the sliding canopy setup , I used two 1/8" sections of plastico U channel to create a rail, I then took a section of H channel and glued a small piece of it to the inside of the canopy sliding section that would slide in and out of the rail created by the two pieces of U channel, I have tried three different methods and this seems to be the best fit
being that my lados came in I can now put her on her own feet and the next set of pic I post should be of the completed plane

That is nice to see some body ells is building a CMP 120 Zero. Well your cockpit looks god and perhaps you could make one for me
I post some pictures off my Zero and I did see that we have the same Pilot to.
Her is the aileron that i have made a new one and my pilot Saburo is helping me
[
I also mad flaps.
Retractable gear.
And the main gear whit the little door and like you know is a pain in the ass to get working god. Perhaps my would.
I am also making a sliding canopy and a full cockpit and perhaps i would get it as god as yours.
Keep up your god work ZERO-322

RE: CMP 120 Zero ARF Build thread
This is how a did it. I try to simulate the real stuff and if they work for the big plane so why should it work in this plane. It´s made of music wire, aluminium and carbon fiber. The tricky part is to get the wheels to close the inner door whit so little friction as possible. My work fine now but I´am going to change the wheels and the strut so I haft to change it all over[] But at least I hopefully would get it work .
Her is a picture that perhaps can help you.

RE: CMP 120 Zero ARF Build thread
Hi, Guys!
I built one of these last year. Great flyer and quite a looker at the field. I went with a Brilelli .26 Gas in mine and a Zoar Sword 17 X 6 or 8, I dont remember. Good "scale" power but certainly not overpowered. I like 'em more true scale power and flight speed than humming along too fast. Some time ago, I had a hard landing and punched the right main through the top of the wing! Ouch! I never got around to fixing the airframe and gutted it and gave it to a great friend of mine for his rebuilding efforts. He will no doubt do a fine job and enjoy this airplane as did I. I will recommend some strengthening ideas in the gear mount area.
Excellent job on the cockpit! Wow! It's really nice. Pilot looks the part and about right for scale. Its a small airplane! For me, the retracts and wheel wells were difficult thing to say the least, as I had to redesign the mountings and angles for better gear placement. I increased the forward rake a couple of degrees to prevent nose-overs as I had read about some others having this issue. I wanted to post some pictures for you in hopes that they would help you in your scale efforts some. These are of a real A6M5 (?) from the Fina Airsho in Midland, TX. I'll post some pics of my model. Just dont laugh at my cheesy cockpit attempts. What I made was entirely from scratch but not up to par with you gents!
Good Luck! This is a great airplane!
