RE: CMP 80
Well im back in crappy cali again. My job didnt work out. That place was like working for Hitler. Anyways foodstick. My plane is still unfinished and still looks like the photos you saw. Still am not in a place in my life where i can finish it. I did weigh the plane and am surprised that it came to 22 lbs without servos and batteries. Im happy with that. If your looking to get one and you can bash well i would recomend getting one. Great flying plane. This is my second Zero.

Chicken hawk, I actually do have one in the basement, I have been looking at more and more, I have a nice set of large robart retracts I am thinking of putting in there.. I am not sure they are the exact right set, but I have been moving closer to finding out

RE: CMP 80
The funny thing is I bought this Zero new broken in the box, and last year I picked up a set of used sweet big robarts, now I am shoe horning those monsters into the wing. I am not even an amateur on retracts so its low going
Now I am building some strength back in around the retract bays ....had to remove some of the spar structure. Glad I opened it up actually, not enough glue for my tastes. I am working gorilla glue into every joint I can reach....
Too many big Hellcats, Corsairs,Mustangs around here flying unmolested There used to be many Zero's in this area when Expo was still up and running.

I think my Robart gear is a size bigger ? They were in a Byron Mustang, about 5 inch wheels ....

Hey 77chickenhawk,
How are things going? Any news on the Zero? I'm getting ready to move back to Hawaii before too long, and I'm thinking of picking one of these up before I go back. Do you know if the Sierra gear for the Yellow aircraft Zero can be made to work?
Amazing work buddy!
Casey

RE: CMP 80
I have heard of them using them in the CMP zero. I think they are a nice step up from the Robarts they have a more scale look. I don't see why you couldn't use them I would if I had the money at the time to invest in them. I finally landed a good job so it just a matter of saving money and getting back on my feet again and then I will be able to get zero in the air. I am looking forward to getting mine going. They are such a great flying airplane. I weighed my airplane the other day and with everything installed except servos and battery Gas tank it weighs 22 pounds. So that is with the engine and landing gear tail-gear installed. That's not unrealistic weight. I think it will fly very nicely.

Congrats on the job! I'll be looking forward to seeing more progress. One last question...what is the length of the canopy...I want to se if a buddie can use his vac machine to pull some new ones.
Thanks!
Casey
Oh...and does anyone have a Japanese pilot for sale out there???
Thanks!

RE: CMP 80
Hey ... glazier808
I just wanted to touch bases with you again regarding the landing gear on the zero. Regardless of which landing gear you choose to use you are still going to need to relocate landing gear mounting points regardless. And I'm not sure if the gear for the yellow zero would be the right choice. Because the yellow zero is a little bit smaller than the CMP.
Now back to your last question LOL. i will have to get back to you on the measurement for the canopy. It would be very nice if somebody made a really detailed mold for vacuum forming it. Ficker plastic more transparent and so on. With nice canopy cage outlines. I know I would sure want to get one and so would a few other people that have one too. It's really hard to make sliding canopy with the one that comes in the kit because it's so brittle and it is almost not worth it anyway because it is so foggy you can't see all the hard work that you did building it. I'll get back to you like I said in a little while. He will also be excited that somebody's looking into producing them.

RE: CMP 80
To be honest, I wish I could get the 120 sized, but it's never in stock...the 80" on the other hand, seems to stay in stock fairly regular. I guess it will be the 80" by default. Not that I'm against the 80" version, I just have a motor and such already, that would work nicely for the smaller one...oh well. I'll be going electric, so perhaps the Rimfire 65cc motor, as I've been wanting to try it out anyways.
Still a great deal on a plane with some pretty scale lines...if you don't mind a little work. You've definitely bashed it into a masterpiece worthy of any show.
Are you selling your rivet set for this bird by chance?
Casey

RE: CMP 80
The DLE 55 fits in the Cowlingl pretty good with only the very top sticking out. I don't know how big the 65cc is but I know it would sure stick out more. As far as the rivets I can do them but somebody else on this Warbird form has kind of taken my idea and ran with it so he's already set up I'm sure if you look around a page or two back in the warbird form you'll see the guy.
And thanks for your compliments on my bird.

Aloha Flyin Hwn! Howzit!?
I didn't fly as much as a wanted, but when I did it was over off Kapaa Quarry road... Aka the swamp....my first WM Zero is still out there somewhere lol.
Sorry to hear about your Zero, not many people can say they have flown a Zero over Oahu, and I'm pretty sure it wasn't the first to go in on that Island (nor was mine)
I'll make sure to look you up when I get back. Is that for the Ford Island show?

RE: CMP 80
If I can add my two cents.... Century jets makes retracts for the 80" zero. I have them in mine and they work really well and fit great. Replacement parts are cheap too. I fly off a dirt strip and it's kind of rough on gear and these have performed flawlessly. I have seen on this site that century jets gets a bad rap here and there. Yes they are nothing like my Sierra gear. It for the cmp zero they are really easy and work great. Hope all you enjoy flying your 80" zero as
Much as I do. I just repainted mine but have yet to add weathering.

Also, I think I've come up with a pretty good looking pilot. I had to piece him together from different sites. All I need is a Japanese parachute and he would be complete. I'll post a pic when everything gets here. It's not perfect, but pretty dang close for what's out there.
