Default IMP A5M Claude-Which engine

Hi guys, am starting to get things together to build one of these at 1/5 scale.Wingspan 82"(2.1m), weight around 18lbs (8kg)I would like to use a petrol engine and have been looking at the mag ignition Zenoahs. The extra weight of the mag will come in handy on such a short nosed bird. A couple of build threads on here have used 1.20 and 1.60 glow engines so I guess around the 3hp mark. Z45 would seem to fit the bill or is this overkill.Any thoughts.
Cheers, Rob.

Default RE: IMP A5M Claude-Which engine

I built a flew one a few years back. I used a Saito 180 with a APC 17x8 prop on 10% getting about 8K at 17.5 pounds dry. It flew very well but not really over powered. I believe a G-26 will give about the same power. Weight in the nose is a very good thing for this plane. I also found some formers where off a bit and the turtle deck needed some extra work. I used some Robart gear struts which worked fairly well.
