well- if you want an 80 inch warbird i would suggest the world gs arfs for now. but without knowing what you have flown you should consider a smaller warbird like the great planes mustang, or maybe the smaller world arf warbirds, or the hangar 9 mustang. these fly pretty well and would be a way to get used to a sport warbird before you go on to the more scale warbirds.

a true scale warbird, from what i have seen, takes some careful flying- keep in mind that these planes were not designed to be easy to fly. they were designed to have the best performance the designers of the day could come up with, to survive in the air and kill other planes.

most of the rc warbird kits have wing airfoils which are not scale, and in many cases the tails have been enlarged for easier flying.
the top flite series is a bit closer to scale than the ones i mentioned above but they too have sport airfoils, and while i have not studied the tails closely i would bet they have also been modified for ease of flying.

there are some warbird kits that are very close to scale but if i were you i would work my way into these gradually. i decide that i wasn't ready these yet, and while a may get a true scale warbird it won't be this year.

MY first warbird is my third plane... I have the P-47... Most warbird fliers on here tend to agree that it's the best flying R/C in terms of habits... a good choice to get into the realm. Give it a look.. The corsair while one of my favorites isn't a good "first" while some disagree, the gull wing is a challenge...

Default starter warbirds

For what its worth I am a long time bulkder and flyer of warbirds and 2 come to mind, the first , an excellent flyer is the T34 Mentor, the second is the Pico T28 Trojan, watching the Trojan coming in with flaps and wheels down is great, both have a lot of wing dihedral and are very stable, Good luck Mike

Hi,

Did you ever consider the FW-190, this is a german warbird that lots of people say it flies really easy and looks really good as well.

take a look at http://www.daveplattmodels.com under the short kits tab, he makes one that is 80" wingspan, but this is not arf and will take quite some building to get into the sky, it is however one of the best when it comes to scale and looks once completed, I am building one at this time,

please look at my thread, Dave Platt FW-190 Project,

http://www.rcuniverse.com/showthread...715&forumid=34

Thanks

Wernerr

If I want scale engine sound do i truly got to use a four stroke or a 2 stroke will just do a scale sound.

The four stroke swings a bigger prop at slower rpms and when throttled back will give the "womp" sound similar to a real aircraft engine. Unless you have an unbalanced prop (which you do not want), it is impossible to make a two stroke try to sound like a radial.

With my air intake open, flaps down, and throttle at 35%, I can make a realistic sounding flyby with a OS 1.20 4 cycl. powered TF P-51.

I vote for World Models P 51 Arf big or little. As for Kits the Topflite Jug Big or little If you build the Jug keep it light 24lb or under on the big one and 12lb or less on the little one.As for World Models P 51 arf use a 70 OS 4 stroke on the little one and a 160FX on the Big one. Ive got the WM P 51 40 size w OS 70 4 stroke and its AWSOME and flys very scale Hope this helps Lee

I have the Model Tech Thunderbolt. It's a 60 size ship. I'm putting an RCV 90-sp (rotary engine with 2:1 reduction) in it, spinning a scale 4 blade prop. I've been modding this bird like a mad man. It's a great plane that you can do alot with... lots of room, good build up and thanks to the large diameter fuse you've got room to work. THe wing isn't scale (looks pretty good just the same) and that adds to it's flyability.
The monokote has been stripped in favor of flite metal. but that's just my taste.
