Fred, I graduated from those 80-85 inch "smalls!" Got my PhD in monster planes from a small school in the upper midwest! Merry Christmas, Fred! Hope you're well!
Mark, you raise a good point… I used to worry about this, too. To (try to) compensate, I have always used more battery than explicitly necessary. For example, in my F7F I use two separate 4500 mAh packs (yes, 9K total), and each pack supports only 1/2 of the plane. I have one receiver and battery pack power the right aileron, left elevator and flap, while the other receiver and battery control the opposite surfaces. Of course, if one battery/receiver goes bad and half the flaps go haywire, the model is doomed. Heck this model is doomed anyway if ANYTHING goes bad!! So far, so good. Careful pre-flight inspections and long check-lists (AMA requirements, anyway for a model this heavy) go a long way toward staving off the unfortunate mishap.
Keep me posted on the final stages of the completion of your model.
Happy holidays to all!
Noah

Guys,
My 84" P-38 uses (2) 8 channel receivers each powered by a 2,000 MA NiCads. Thankfully other than the tip stall on the maiden I haven't had any problems with this setup but I'm thinking that instead of splitting the flaps I should put them on the same receiver after reading Noahs post.
Happy Holidays
Larry

Noah,
I will take you up on the introduction to your Tigercat on my return to KY in late March 2014, as far as the Wilke gear & door sequencer, its all electric operation with servo's instead of air. You should go to Troybilt models website under scale accessories and watch the video. I think you might like it for future projects. They are out of stock at this time and I'm on the list when they get them in stock. Let me know what you think.

Mark, Steve,
Yeah, lets get together on Monday. Mark, I have to warn you that my F7F in undergoing a bit of an overhaul, so it's mostly disassembled, but I'm happy to show you how I got it set up and walk you through some things to look out for on the model when getting it setup for first flights.
I can get away from work a bit early on Tuesday, just let me know when and where you're meeting, we'll grab some food and then we can swing over to my house (about 20 minutes from Yukon) and we can all have a look at my planes.
Jeff, no Toledo! Never been, an not able to get away this year. How are things up there?

Well Noah & Steve I'm back on my way out west to AZ again this year. Leaving KY on Dec 26, 2014 for Bullhead City, AZ for the winter. Just to cold here in KY. So me the wife and the critters are heading for warmer weather again. Should be passing thru Yukon on Dec 28 if all possible I would like to meet up with you guy's again and just chat. I sorry to say nothing has been done to my Tigercat this summer, with flying a lot and going to Joe Nall and a few other show's its been a really busy summer. I did manage to get the gear door hinges from Giant Scale Planes for the Cat and a gear sequencer from Down and Locked at Joe Nall Show. Been hunting for a set of Glennis Scale wheels with no luck yet. Well enough rambling.

My F7F still lives in Oklahoma. Sold it to a friend (maser, here on RCU) after many years of rough treatment. Last flight in October of 2015 ended up with wing mount tear-out, and it's my understanding that maser is working to resurrect the model.
At least I hope so.
It was an incredibly thrilling experience to fly this model. And I hope it lives to see the sky once more.

Don Smith Tigercat, 2 Saito Fg60r3 radials, 103 in span, 57 lbs, Started building 2015, test flew June 20, 2020. Flew great, not overpowered, Century Jet electric gear converted by Down and Locked. Retracts have been a flipping nightmare, I think I finally got them figured out. First landing broke a prop and twisted the gear a bit, ready for flight #2.
