Yep:

(note...not Wiki )

I've always thought the FK 58 was a pretty cool (Kool? ) looking airplane.

Maybe that extra time will help you come up with a warbird related question, the last two were questionsable at best.

So are you telling me neither the V2 nor 707 were warbirds?

I beg to differ. Greatly.

I am saying a question about the first commercial aircraft and an experimental plane like the X-1 were questionable with regards to fitting the thread.

22 hours left...

the x-1 not a warbird????-it set the precedent for the modern jet age, major battle in the cold war, it had nose art, was flown by a ww2 ace, and won the biggest battle of them allthe sound barrier.

Was the X-1 ever intended for any type of combat ops?  I'm not asking to be sarcastic.   I've seen airliners with nose art.

considering it was built for and operated by combat personel, the army air force, with an intended mission. I would pretty much call that a warbirdthere have been countless prototype planes brought up in this thread numerous time that never saw combat, now all of a sudden the warbird nazi's are here to speak.

There have been numerous question about aircraft design in general and you guys have all been silent-how bout in the good name of the thread we all just move on and enjoy.

Oh and remember to the test pilots who lost their lives trying to get bell x-1 style aircraft to complete the missionpretty sure they felt like they were going to war.

Evil,

In looking back at my post, then your response, I think you misread my post as saying "your last two questions" instead of just "the last two questions" .

I might let it slide if had been painted O.D.

I sure hope Evil changes his mind about the 23 hours or this thread could quickly end up spiraling out of control! []

If my Koolhoven question is one that you're talking about, Google or Yahoo (or whatever ) the F.K. 56 and F.K. 58

800mZero just guessed my question before I got to give more clues, that's all.

The clue about an airliner was background information!

rumor has it they were going to replace the gremlin(sorry goblin) in the same role. there is footage of one trying to reconnect to the bomber somewhere. (not wiki pure heresy as far as you know.)

The Blackburn Buccaneer had a claim to fame, one that had a long term impact on avation.

What was it?

Nope, other aircraft had this feature before. BLC has been a known effect since the 20's.

The first practical application of the "area rule"? Also known as the Whitcomb area rule and transonic area rule. This lead to the characteristic "Coke bottle shape" seen on almost all high speed aircraft today. Thanks; Ernie P.

I am not sure whether the start of the design counts or the flight of the first test airplane.

The design of the F-102 was in response to a specification by the Air Force in 1950.
The first flight of the YF-102 with the area rule fueselage was in 1954.
The first production F-102 was delivered in 1955.

The area rule was also applied on the F105B and the F-106.
The F105B flew in 1956.
The first F-106 that was delivered flew in 1956. It became operational in 1959.

The specification for the Buccaneer's was written in 1952. That is after the specification for the F-102.
The Buccaneer's first flight was in 1958; which I consider a test flight. This is after the test flight of the YF-102. It is also after the first production F-102 was delivered.
The Buccaneer became operational in 1962. This is after the the F-106.

When considering the fact that we don't know what was on the mind of the engineers when the area-rule was applied to the design. I don't think that the design portion of the airplanes should be considered. I think that the first operational flight should be the qualifying feature of the question.
