RE: Knowledge Quiz for Warbird wiz
Zipp, I can't resist a short Musketeer story: When I was working at Concord Buchanan Tower in Concord, Ca, about 1972 there was a horrible accident with a Musketeer. Remember all the stories that say "you can't hook the ailerons up backwards on a full scale airplane?" I believe the Beachcraft dealers son was the test pilot after this compete rebuild of the aircraft. All R/Cr"s with a few months of experience always know to check the ailerons on the first flight, and every flight if you are smart. Who among us has not taken off with them reversed at least once. Well, I did not see it but eye witnesses said everything seemed normal until rotation when the aircraft started a very slow roll, caught the wing tip and cartwheeled several times ending up in the infield. The Beach was so badly damaged that they had to pull the pilot out through the firewall, the two bottom engine mounts had failed and the engine was only attached to the firewall by the top two bolts. I believe the pilot recovered and when we all looked at the wreck many commented that the wings were 'really hell for stout' having suffered a series of cartwheels and still being totally intact and just slightly bent out of alignment. Obviously the tips were really hammered, but the wings looked repairable. Most of the flight instructors there did not like the Musketeer very well. Said to be kind of a compromise and not a great performer. Wallace.tharp

RE: Knowledge Quiz for Warbird wiz
Sorry, no; not Trollope. And I'm running out of clues. Not a bad answer; just not the man I'm looking for. BTW; Trollope's score of seven aircraft in a single day is not accepted by every one. Or at least, it wasn't not so long ago. The generally accepted high score is six in one day; and it was done by (not positive) five men. This ace is one of the five. Thanks; Ernie P.
