Sorry to be slow back on this, I've been sleeping!!!!
Adrian is correct, the Bristol Blenheim light bomber.
Based on an aircraft built for media magnate Lord Rorthermere which turned out to be significantly faster than any RAF fighter around at the time.
You are up sir!!!

This is not really fair, as Ernie P. already answered it: The Fiesler Fi 167.

If Ernie wants, he can go ahead and take this and run with the next question.

JohnnyS; Let's wait until Adrian confirms that's the right answer. I know the Fieseler seems to meet all the requirements; but there are often multiple correct answers. If it is, you go ahead. Besides, I'm trying to lay back a bit. I don't want folks to get tired of my questions. Thanks; Ernie P.

Thanks, Ernie P!
OK, let's see if I can come up with something interesting.
1. It was a test aircraft. Only one was built, but it was flown a LOT by many interesting people.
2. The next aircraft in the series was much faster. MUCH faster!
3. Developed using parts from different Beech aircraft models.
4. Twin engined.

7. First flight in 1957, retired in 1981.
8. Go back and re-read clue #2: The next aircraft in the series still holds records for speed.

Sorry Ernie! I meant to post last night but I ended up helping a buddy move. His divorce reminds me of the old joke. Q." Why is divorce so expensive?" A. "Because its worth it!"
