RE: Knowledge Quiz for Warbird wiz

I will guess the Ilyushin Il-2 (Shturmovik)
(By the way, the 65 figure only applies to the 4th ShAP).

And P-51B takes it
The sturmovik went on to be probablly the best ground attack aircraft of the warhowever had an incredibly rocky start!

RE: Knowledge Quiz for Warbird wiz
O.K.
For those interested;
Only 249 Il-2s were available on 22 June 1941. In the first three days, 4 ShAP had lost 10 IL-2s to enemy action, but a further 19 were lost to other causes. 20 pilots were killed in these incidents. By 10 July, 4th ShAP was down to 10 aircraft from a strength of 65.
I will get the next question posted tonight, I need to go get some cabinets hung right now.

RE: Knowledge Quiz for Warbird wiz
I am looking for an aircraft
First two clues:
1. This aircraft was a prototype.
2. The program was cancelled due to the success of the F4U Corsair.

Not sure about those, but not the one I am looking for.
I will wait to post the next few clues to give some time for some more guesses. Plus the next two clues will either give it away, or likely make it google-able.

Dagnabbit Ernie,
I was hoping to get to the clue about it being the last aircraft delivered to the U.S. Navy with the vertical red, white, and blue rudder stripes.[:@]
You are up sir!

Okay, guys; this question should be an easy one. The correct answer should be forthcoming in a matter of minutes. But I'll tell you in advance: The answer is probably not what you will first think; and not every one will agree with the answer. Thanks; Ernie P.
Question: What warbird scored the first documented and verified “kill” by a jet aircraft; and on what date?
Hint: Read the question.
