Knowledge Quiz for Warbird wiz
Sorry guys, not the Connie or the 707 variants. Time for more clues.
Looking for a plane:
1) This plane was an adaptations of another design that proved to be unsuccessful
2) This was one of the first planes built for this specific role
3) This plane was multi-engined
4) This plane had an operational crew of 13 but could carry as many as 24
5) This plane never carried any gunnery
6) This plane used engines more fuel efficient than what was used on the C-135
7) This planes weapons were capable of hitting multiple kinds of targets
8) This plane was built by one company and the completed airframe was then equipped by two others to perform it's job
9) This plane shared it's name with a much older aircraft that was built by a rival coumpany
Good Luck

And I have a plane in mind too! The engine clue gave it away since the Comet and the military Nimrod only came to mind.
1. Designed for a war it never saw combat in.
2. Confusing designation led to miscues in mission assignment.
3. Hundreds ordered less than 40 delivered.

1. Designed for a war it never saw combat in.
2. Confusing designation led to miscues in mission assignment.
3. Hundreds ordered less than 40 delivered.
4. Plagued with the similar mechanical issues of the plane it was copied from.
5. Won out in the competition for this role because it was cheaper and built with a lot of similar parts from its diritive airplane and only slightly slower than the purpose built plane.
6. The plane it beat in the completion was crashed during the testing phase with a famous pilot at the controls.
Any guesses?

Sir; although we'll have to wait for elmshoot to respond, if I were you I'd start getting a question ready. I've been in a convention for the past several days, but could occasionally get spotty internet access; and my guess was the same as your's. We might both be wrong, but what are the chances of that happening? Oh.... Well, I still think we're right. Thanks; Ernie P.
I have to agree with Ernie, sounds about right to me as well. There is actually a really nice model of one pictured in the "Road Trip" thread. Here's a shortcut to see a picture of it

The plane is a modified P-61 Black Widow with no weaponry, a nose full of cameras and a tandem cockpit with a canopy similar to the B-47

Yep its the F-15 Reporter....
I went to The Goshen Air supremacy fly in last weekend and Carl..? he guy who specializes in Giant models had one that was flown for the last time there... if you know what i mean.
I kept looking at it and just couldnt put my finger on it after about 2 hours flapping in the wind I finally asked what it was.
There is a whole bunch on whikipidia

It didn't last long because most of the planes that flew in WWII only flew part of the war. In addition to the ones we've already thrown out, you can add the B-17, maybe B-24, the Spitfire, BF-109 as well as most of the German twin engined bombers, and that's really about it.
I'll see about getting something up either later today or tomorrow

Yep thta's the inspiration for the quiz subject i picked. I didn't get any responses so I went to the easy clues earlier that I had planned.
Outer wing came off in a Normal turn.
I don't think any pictures were shot of the crash.
I was over looking at the wreckage and saw one of the DA-100 engines had broken a cylinder off the case.
Several other things were informative to see. Sad we lost such a unusual plane. This particular plane modeled had a T-33 canopy fitted, A one off situation.
