1/8 scale TopFlite Corsair Mods

Hard to believe that my bird has been in the attic in primer for over 10 years while I fully restored a 1939 full scale boat and scratch built 1/12 scale model of the same. Maybe it’s time to dust it off and finish it. Nice catching up on everyone’s progress.

I’ve kind of gotten the bug again after re-reading some of this thread. The full scale boat is fully restored and the model boat is done, so maybe it’s time to bring out the warbirds again. Did anyone get around to building the 1/6 Corsair from Royal plans? I still have quite a bit of the wood that I bought for that project.

Jim,
l’m leaning towards finally building the BT Hellcat that I bought parts from you for 10+ years ago. I have a lot of Luke’s bits like the cockpit kit and canopy as well. Chad, as I’m catching up, I see that you’ve spent some quality time with the Hellcat as well. I’m not sure if most folks on here now will know what to think about a nitro-powered stick build.

I see smu gator mentioned the brian Taylor hell cat, I have the prototype royal products had for their hell cat complete with the only set of royal plans, and a bunch of paperwork from head of engineering Dave Anderson to a guy in California trying to create an instruction manual and get retracts fitted.
if anyone is interested in plans and templates contact me.

Well, Here I am 8 years later and my Corsair is a pilot and graphics away from taking off finally. Just finished connecting the ailerons, not is just a matter of going over everything, adjusting the tail wheel so it stays locked and turns properly, setting throws, graphics and ready to fly. I have the FA 120R3 all set up with on board glow, custom made exhaust, and Century Jet retracts. Balanced just a touch nose heavy, like 1/16 from dead on. Final weight minus pilot is 12.1 pounds.
