RE: NEW Top Flight P-40??? 1/5 scale
If CJ used Jerry Bates plans then it should be very close to scale.I have built both the Jerry Bates and the Yellow. I think the Yellow is a little more scale , but the bates is very close.

Yellow looks like a great deal compared to the CJ kit . Its is a high price tab but with out really know what your getting or the actual quality I just dont know if the price is worth it .
It would be great to see Top Flight jump in with the same price as there Giant P47

RE: NEW Top Flight P-40??? 1/5 scale
was wondering.. on my Kyosho P-40, would it be possible to flush mount the cowl?
if so how? reason being is that its pretty much bang on in terms of scale.

This is just my opinion but I don't think a Warbird is a true Warbird unless it's glassed and painted or a nice job with Flite-Metal which I stink at. I'll just stay with primer and paint. Covering is for civilian planes and then only the ones that were originally covered in fabric. The rest should be sheeted and glassed like true Warbirds.

Dont forget Zeroli has a new glass fuse for his P-40 !! I have two sets of plans for it, and their aren't that many peices for the fuse !! I would think one could cut the whole kit in just 8 or 10 evenings !! and of course a rainey weekend.

I seen a PINK P-40 at Oshkosh in 1988 !!! It was flown by a woman who's name escapes me know !! I found out later that a large # of P-40s, that were in the deserts of Africa, that were O.D., turned pink from the heat & sun !!

Her name is Sue Parrish and the airplane now hangs (unfortunately) in the Kalamazoo Air Museum in Michigan. The inspiration for the paint job came from P-40s based in Africa and painted desert tan. The story goes that the tan paint contained a considerable amount of lead which caused it to turn a pinkish hue as it weathered in the hot desert sun. Sue's bird is probably a little more pink than the originals and certainly a whole bunch more glossy!

RE: NEW Top Flight P-40??? 1/5 scale
Saw this post...
q's////
Do you mean the p-40 will be ANounced?
OR do you mean it will be RELEASED???
in JUNE 2010??
BIG DIFFerence between the two, specifically on when it would actually arrive...
THe biggest hint that something was to be released soon from TOpflite was the
press release, that ROBART was going to make some LArge scale retracts...
Robart 100 Degree Rotating Retract Set Large Scale
http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LNZMU3&P=G
This is ALWAYS a BIG CLue, that something is comming from TOPFLITE....
Cheers...

RE: NEW Top Flight P-40??? 1/5 scale
I was told a few years ago (by a Top-Flight rep) that the giant Mustang kits where still out selling the ARF. This may be true on the bigger one but I don't see it. I know of a bunch of T/F Mustangs in eastern NC that all started out as ARCs. There isn't that many arf mustangs around here,( big beautifull doll) and a kit build one is even rarer. I know it's a small sample of the big picture but I do a lot of traveling and I'm always looking for Mustangs.

I was told it would be "available" in June...I'm a little skeptical about that. It does not appear that anyone has a clue about this plane. I hope it is not like the Aeroworks Mustang.
I saw it 2 years ago, and it just recently became available. Or kinda like Yellow Aircraft has had a 100 inch Corsair in the works for at least 5 years.

If there is really anything behind this, Top Flite/Tower Hobbies would be smart to announce it. With the ESM offering on the way, much of the P-40 market may soon be taken.

RE: NEW Top Flight P-40??? 1/5 scale
An interesting way to find out for sure: find out how many kit versions of the Top Flite '60 size' Mustangs and Thunderbolts have been sold compared to the number of their ARFs of the same kits.
I like the ARC idea too, you can fix anything you don't really like and get just what you want out of it. I'd probably do a copy of the simple but nostalgic Cox c/l version, the tan or the green each of which I had a VERY long time ago . Doug

I know its harder to manufacture but even with that I think the P-40B is the best looking of the lot and until I find a one at a reasonable cost I'll pass on any P40's even tho its one of my favorites.

Robart already produces 100 degree retracts for large scale. If you look at the gear finder page, oh say under top flite 1/5 scale corsair you will find them.

RE: NEW Top Flight P-40??? 1/5 scale
They listed these in there New release list....
Then again they also listed the Great Planes Glo-Bee Intellitach Digital Tachometer
on the list earlier this year in there NEW releases..LOL.....
I think that one has been out for 6 years.....
The price is different by 50$
and the part # is different as well
150 (new ones) and 148 (the ones you showed me)
...so I beg to differ at this point...
