I did try J`Tec snuffler muffler on my last warbird TF P47. Shaked all apart and struggling to keep it in one piece.

Why not silversolder a good kit delivered from Tony Clark? I guess this is available in the US somewhere? http://www.toni-clark.com/index_en.htm

Here are pictures of the kit and also finished silversoldering. Yet, not painted....Totally hidden within the cowl.

Works excellent with nice sound from my RCGF 55

Affas, I had the exact same problem with my p47 w/j-tec. The Slimeline is much heavier aluminum . I hope it solves the problem.

Those are great videos. You were putting her through the paces on the p40 maiden!!!

I have never posted a picture but I will try later. I don't know if the set up in the pic will work. All I know is none worked for me. The cracks are small and hard to see. They are on the header near where the back bolt tightens against the muffler. The same thing happened to my p47 muffler AND the same thing happened to my Buddy's P47muffler AND now my p40 muffler. We both tried numerous things listed in previous comments and none worked. I'm surprised others aren't commenting. To be fair my buddy has the same muffler, that you show in your pic, on a P51 W/dle55 and it is working fine. I know this doesn't give a good solution but I never solved the problem. I think the beefy Slimeline will, It just doesn't fit the cowl well.

I've have 3 Jtec mufflers, They are hard to keep tight and 2 have broken. The only reason the 3rd hasn't broken is because it has sat on a damaged plane on the shelf for two years. Al @ J-tec is a nice guy but I can no longer waste money on his mufflers.

Guys,

I have the same airplane (TP GS P-47). It had a 4.2 Brison on it. After two (custom made) at $150.00 a piece,,, of the Jtec mufflers litterally broke and were useless after only a few flights, I gave up. Yes they were anchored down in every way. I even sent one back to Al and he said it was too badly damaged to fix, I would have to buy a new one. It wasn't a crash, just normal WOT warbird flying..... I finally gave in, changed to a gentle G-62 with a side mount Bennett and have not had a problem since after 30 or so flights. Not as pretty but I'm flying trouble free.

BTW, Al is a good guy and he has a very good company, he was very responsive to my needs. I just don't believe his mufflers (without some sort of anchor built it) hold up to the beating of a big gas engine.

It appears that there are several that have had the same experience. Probably just the tip of the iceberg.... I totally agree... they are built with very thin alum.

I am making some modifications to my Jtec Wrap around Muffler for my DLE55 on this plane; it's at the welding shop now, I know Jtec advises against it, but I can see no reasonable rationale for this, I will be modifying mine to ensure it doesn't break apart, once I get the cowl on, I don't want to have to take it off anytime soon, when I get my muffler back I plan on posting some pictures later this week, my modifications may appear to be overkill, but I'd rather go this way then none at all!

The Slimline pitts style is working well on my P40/DLE55 . I have about 10 flights since installing it. The only problem is the muffler can touches the cowl requiring me to cut a relief hole,It looks all right though. I will keep yall advised.

I haven't given up on the JTEC, I think after my modifications(which I will post pictures later this week), Nord Lock Washers and Wire Lockable Bolts; that I hopefully shouldn't expect any problems.

Any chance to post a picture of your plane with the Slimline and the Cowl Hole you had to make?

Thanks, it's about time!!!!

Another friend also has the P40 w/DLE55RA and the stock muffler came completely off. The metal separated around the mounting bolts.

Here are a few more pics of the muffler for the P-40. The J-tec muffler pic is hard to see, but there are hairline cracks forming
