The spinner is milled out of solid stock. Nice and solid. Hobby Warehouse (Minneapolis) has 4 on order now. Should be here soon, I Hope...

OK I was really waiting for the 60 size, but you only live once. Pulled the trigger on this bad boy. Have a couple months to save up for the retracts. same question as Gotsky which ones do we order? Guess I can always put in my own counterbalances.

I saw to being flown today at the Joe Nall fly in in Woodruff, SC today. Pretty impressive. It was flown with a 50cc engine. The Rep that I spoke to said that it would be out in August. So save up those pennys.

Hey guys,
It has been good to see the positive comments on this airplane. As I posted earlier, we are very excited about this one. I thought I would chime in to address some of the questions and comments that have been posted.
Counter Balances on the elevator will be on the production airplanes. The airplane used for photography and being flown at Joe Nall did not have them but that change was made before production began.
Retracts - The order number for the Robart Retractable Landing Gear is ROBQ1665. http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin...?&I=LXZMU3&P=7 This landing gear is not the same as the Robart Corsair landing gear. There are a few differences in the strut.
If you are one of those guys who want to get your hands on this in August I strongly suggest you get your backorder placed. I don't want to overhype this but early indications are the demand is high for this airplane. It's hard to know what the availability will be when they arrive.

Thanks for that information. I was looking at this one and the ESM. Your promise about the elevator counterbalances just pushed me towards the top-flite.

Is the spinner too small for scale? They made that mistake with the P-51. Something on the front end is 'off' but I can't quite figure it out.

I think its the "chin scoop". It appears to taper up too much/is too small. I was trying to compare it to the ESM model photos, but it also looks off...at least to me.
I haven't pulled the trigger yet on either, but both seem to have decent features and basic appearance.

Call it hoping a kit manufacturer with a loyal following see's enough interest from builders to also offer this GS P40 in a kit. Call it disgust that the backbone this hobby was built on is being removed by the "instant gratification" crowd and cheap Chinese labor. Have a little ingenuity and enthusiasm and build something, you might enjoy it. There are still a ton of people who enjoy building just as much, if not more than, flying. Call it tired of seeing ARF assembly threads on forums titled "Build" threads. You aren't building anything, your assembling something a factory worker on the other side of the world threw in a jig and glued together. Top Flite already produces Giant Scale Kits and a new offering in that Giant Scale line would be very welcomed and probably very popular. Discontinued kits have been re-issued by Hobbico if they see an interest from the market. The P40 is a very popular plane and I have no doubt a GS P40 kit from Top Flite would also be very popular. So, throw us a bone Hobbico, add something to the Giant Scale KIT line you already offer.

RE: NEW Top Flight P-40??? 1/5 scale
Thanks again JimKin for that update. I have a order in with Tower for mine.
As far as not being as perfect of scale as some people expect I am sure that the price would be in the thousand of dollars. Such as Aeroworks new P-51. But I already have my TF 51(actually I have 2 TF-51's) that is good enough for me in the scale flying I do. I like a true scale plane as much as everybody else...but I like a good flying plane best of all...so if things are "off" a little at my age?? At a hundred feet and 90MPH..who cares.
As for the anti-ARF people if you look in my profile you will see I have scratch built some nice planes....but after thirty years of silk & dope I HATE to build anymore. Lets fly!

Well, I just bit the bullet. I couldn't wait for my LHS owner to get back next week, so I placed an order with Tower. The first shipments are probably going to be sold out before they are released or delivered by Top Flite. Whoever is interested in having one, should definitely look into placing an order soon.

I see it too Jeff and I plan to address it when I get my P-40 as well as doing some work on the wing tips and maybe the canopy. It also needs a bit more dihedral but that modification may be beyond the scope of what I have in mind!
