I thought about it, but I didn't want to shorten the engine box. The 220 is way to long unless you could live with the prop sticking way out in front of the cowl. It would work great if you wanted to go to the effort. BTW, mine flys real well on the 180.

I'm interested in what everybody's P-47 weighs.

I finished it up last night, and weighed it on the bathroom scale: dang near 18 pounds with 2.4 ounces of lead to balance it. I hope this little G-26 will pull it around okay. . . .

Can't maiden it this weekend because we've got a small hurricane blowing here in northwestern Virginia. Maybe next weekend.

Doug

I have had numerous 180s and 2 220 to date they aren't that different if I had to guess maybe 1/4 of an inch longer on the 220.

My preference would be to go Gas and just get out of Glow fuel these day's.

As I mentioned earlier, I fly my P-47 with a G-38 in its nose. Since the motor is still fairly new I still run it on the rich side and with a mixture of 1:32. For the break-in period I used a wooden TopFlite 18x8 which yielded 7200 rpm from my G-38. Yesterday I replaced that prop with a Mezjlik 18x8 and guess what: The G-38 topped at 8240 [X(] I couldn't believe it. Needless to say the flying characteristic of my P-47 improved proportionally. I was pleasently surprised.

because i fly aerobatic airplanes i know that not all props are created equal the mezlec is one of the best also if you want to stay with wood the N X props from air wild are very good

Change it to an APC 18X10, and be pleasantly surprised again.

WLJ,
I believe you, but I am a little on the nose heavy side already. The graphite is a tad lighter than the APC.

hello everyone, has anyone had a problem with the little *** that rests behind the scissor piece on the strut itself? myne just snapped off tonight by me just compressing the strut, and i havent even had the plane in the air yet. i wonder if horizon would consider this defective? the piece in question is the little thing that keeps the strut compressed.:(

hdcomp,
I know what your are talking about. Mine didn't breake off but I had to make me a cmplete new leg already. The axle bushing broke off and since the tag weld are so flimsy I decided to make me a new strud altogether. I used better steel for the 10mm tubing and mig welded on the bushings much stronger than those Chinese factories do. Yes, your are right, it is my opinion also that this should be addressed to HH as a defect. The lousy quality of steel they are using is also a questionable issue.

I've been following this thread closely and was wondering if most of you consider this plane a good value. I know their are the odd issues here and there but just wanted a general impression on whether the owners feel its money well spent. Hobby stores in my area don't carry these as stock so I don't have the option of seeing one in person before making a purchase.

Thanks.

overnout,
I believe it is a good value for the money. The things that have been mentioned here as downfalls, are all things which can be remedied. The plane flies nicely and looks great. The construction appears to be of excellent quality. I could not have built this plane to this degree for the money I spent on the kit nor the in the time it took me to get it airborne.

Excellent value and performance for the $$$. Flys like a trainer with a real War Bird look.

I agree that it is well built plane and looks great.I also don't think I could do as nice a job for the money. The only problem is I "STILL HAVE NOT GOTTEN THE BLASTED JR RETRACT SERVOS". I was hoping to get them before the holiday[memorial day not Christmas] so I could fly it this week end but[:@] they said this week:eek:.Tom

It would be outstanding. The motor is lighter than a G-38 with much more power.

That's guys for the reply, i have both G38 and G62 waiting for a plane and i appreciate the input. Two of the guys i fly with have 1/3 sacle P-51 with a G62 and DA50 engine in them and i don't want to be the weak stick when were flying formations. Regarding sacle like flying is not a consecration i can always back off the power if i want and a 3 or 4 blade prop would look good. I have a turbine and other speed planes so im use to flying fast and being able to slow down for landing. I like the term "to far over the eage and massive power" the sound of a G62 with a B&B smoke muffler has the cool factor. As of now im not sure what i going to do but if i would do the massive power i know i would have to cut and reinforce the engine box and also the safety factor that the plane will stay together. Thats again ,reply appreciated later xxspeed
Ehhh, 1/3 scale Mustang would be close to 13 feet in wingspan. These engines seem a little bit on the lower side for that size.
Are you sure they don't have 1/5 or even 1/4 scale... Plus your Jug would look well out of place flying with 1/3 scale birds ;)

My friend was test flying his last Friday. Moki 2.10 side mounted, APC 21x10W prop, Bisson pitts muffler. 16.8 lbs dry with no ordinance. We got out the radar gun and were getting 109 mph straight and level with no diving down at full throttle, and 76 mph at half throttle (which is a scale 456 mph, by the way).

Mine should be in the air sometime next week with the same set up!

Did you guys get the RPM on that Moki2.1 / 21*10 setup??
Great numbers!
