RE: CMP BF109F BUILDING THREAD
I got my spinner from AK Models, he took one out of a kit he had until his spares come in Feb, I would be supprised its canned as all the tooling for it they would keep it in production to recover their costs I do think the spinner on all models is going to be an issue my new one has flaws I can see and its new! if this one fails I will just get one made remember mine is running a 180 glow with a 18*6 prop.... that is one large pulsating mass in front of that motor

slow on the reply on this thread. my build is on rc groups and is electric. I have slight spacing mod.....tore out the original rails and replaced them with very thick 1 inch marine ply and 4-40 bolts and blind nuts. Wheels are at the moment 4 3/8 , narrow yes , but no much off scale comparing looking at my scale refer books head on drawings. I'm going to try and fit an even more scale 4 1/2 inch 3/4 wide wheel in a few weeks. I have a 4 1/2 inch wheel /tire now that DOES FIT , but scrapes slightly ......so maybe a 1/16 inch addtl trim might yield a useable result and still hid the wheels. But then, I'll have to cut out new wood wheel covers and waurp the wood all over and fit them ... ah heck !!!HAA !!, so I'm in no rush about anything on this plane. It will fly this spring I hope.......I really like this plane . Fiberglass fuse and detail is whale of deal. Cheers!!!

RE: CMP BF109F BUILDING THREAD
I am thinking about moving the retract rails inboard about an inch or two and using a longer more scale strut with the larger wheels. SHe looks too squat with the stock setup.
|
RE: CMP BF109F BUILDING THREAD
Manfred, Your right about that. Then with larger wheels the wheels will not look over sized either. And the wheel pants can be the right size as well.

my new engine mounting photos being uploaded now "1" is two alloy plates about 4-5mm thick, "2" things called helicoils inserted into the alloy to increase the strength "3" tapping for the helicoils "4" helicoil on insertion tool "5" helicoils in the alloy "6" backs which need cutting off "7" test fit to engine "8" test fit to engine bay "9" more test fitting "10" joints which I may strengthen "11" mounted into bay... the bay also has a thin plate of alloy to provide the correct spacing on the top side of the motor the motor is mounted on the studs and there is a set of 4mm screws going further out

RE: CMP BF109F BUILDING THREAD
I just replaced my radio and got what I thought was a 10 CHANELL futaba 10C bit angry actually because even though they advertise it as 10 channel the last two channels yes 9+10 are only usefull as switches and whats worse they have no end point adjustment! this means even though I need 9 channels for this plane I only have 8 I cant adjust the end points for the gear lever servo which needs to be set correctly, I have now found out you can reverse a servo by swapping the motor wires and the outside wires on the pot might do this to allow the brakes to work correctly

RE: CMP BF109F BUILDING THREAD
A-K models shows plenty available, and a 20% discount right now takes the price down to $221.00. Quite the steal.

Hey Fearless, if you have the Sierra gear it looks like your left gear leg is like mine was, backwards. The axle angle is wrong when the gear leg is spun around. Turn it 180 degrees and you may find that the wheel then sits at the proper angle, less than the leg instead of more. I noticed mine when looking at a head on photo I took.

RE: CMP BF109F BUILDING THREAD
$221 , I cant even find them on there site [&o]

Flies ghreat !
Well, that's fantastic news. !! That concerns me about it being canned though. I'd like to order another spare spinner now. |

I doubt that hard plastic spinner will last long anyway. I'd go for the Dave Platt spinner with the aluminum back plate. If you made an aluminum back plate for the CMP spinner it may last a while.

Yep , my KMP 109 gear is more scale located and the strut I believe is exactly 1 " longer on the KMP and it used the 4 1/2 wheels with gobs of room to spare . Manfred , I had already recived my set of Giant Serria for the CMP ( special order) , he made these just for the CMP model.......but , if I make another model , I WOULD move the rails toward the fuse about 1 ich and then you can order the KMP "E" retracts from Giant Sierra. The wheels sits out from the LE more , the plane sits higher for a scale prop and does look better than modified CMP setup, but the guys at the filed will never tell.......most of them can't tell a ZERO from a Edge 540. . I pealed back the covering and did the least movement I could get away with , but at the same time relaized that the longer KMP struts would have been the way to go. The CMP struts have a slight rake angle comming out of the retract and Giant Sierra takes this into account and its a nice fitting retract and I just decided to go ahead and take the easy way out. Yes .... "STILL" CMP stands an inch short with 4 1/2 wheels......but.. I'm still pleased overall , it is better than NO F-G model at all and I can live it it fine like it comes out of the box. Here is pic of the KMP E, with more scale struts...... it also cost 200.00 more per kit ......and isn't a "F" model. Cheers .........Oh I learned to day my scale wheels are "IN THE MAIL" ;) Also I included a pics of actually 109 gear .......the tires early on were ballon ish and very skinny.... The later FATer tired ME 's had a bulge on the top of the wing.
Attached is an updated pic of the KMP109 with new glennis wheels. I want to add latter wheels to the CMP , but more work. |
RE: CMP BF109F BUILDING THREAD
I've actually ordered the KMP gear for the CMP 109, as it seems to be better scale than the CMP gear is. I'll be making the mods as needed for the rails to get them to fit in a more scale manner as well as using a more scale wheel.
I was originally going to repaint the 109, but I have enough stuff on the plate, I'm just going to toss the gear and engine in and fly this thing. |
RE: CMP BF109F BUILDING THREAD
well at midnight last night I pulled out an air brake servo and did the reversal, worked a treat! very simple to do and it saves you a channel mine was with a Hitec servo, open it up, de-solder the motor from the board pull out the circiut board, pop out the motor and spin it 180 deg, swap the two outer wires on the pot, resolder the motor and there you have it all you need to use now is a Y lead

RE: CMP BF109F BUILDING THREAD
I used a JR matchbox. works quite well and without tinkering with reversing a servo electrically.
|
RE: CMP BF109F BUILDING THREAD
at $US60 dollars for a matchbox I prefer to alter the servo
|
RE: CMP BF109F BUILDING THREAD
ORIGINAL: snappa at $US60 dollars for a matchbox I prefer to alter the servo Add to that, I have a JR9303 where all 9 channels are programmable, where each channel (5-9 has its own switch plus all channels have travel adjustment capability, etc.). (1-4 are the normal flight channels). Sorry that your Futaba 10c radio isnt what you had hoped for. Maybe return it and get something different if you still can. |
RE: CMP BF109F BUILDING THREAD
I just bought one (BF109 ) Like I need another project but with 20% off it was a nice xmas present !!!
Looks like I need the Sierra -KMP gear know [X(] I still need to finish my Fw190 lol |
RE: CMP BF109F BUILDING THREAD
actually I have just been fitting the new spinner CAUTION throw away the screws that come with the spinner DONT EVEN think about them! they are soft and just rubbish (note to CMP....Please give the designer who sourced the screws a slap around the ear for me) now the solution which has just worked for me get 4 m3*10 mm cap screws and use them surley the price difference between good quality cap screws compared to rubbish self tappers is so minimal its not even worth the pain? considering this spinner is flying around at about 8000 rpm I thought they would have taken more care with it
|
RE: CMP BF109F BUILDING THREAD
snappa
also slap them for me as well, one for each screw. Steve |
RE: CMP BF109F BUILDING THREAD
never ceases to amaze me how poor quality some of the parts are in kits from China I for one would be happy paying anothe $10 for the cost of an alloy spinner however we really dont know what the markup is on a kit the importers could be making a huge profit with our Asian mates are only getting a pittance for the kit?
