Ty,

Please put me down for one of the spiners! Thanks,

Dornhoffer,
Great job detailing your '109 !!!!!
Black tulip scheme is my favorite. I have a litho signed by Erich Hartmann titled,
'Sting of the Black Tulip', by Robert Taylor.
If you haven't read Hartmann's biography, 'Blond Knight of Germany', I would highly recommend it.

Nice print. I passed that one up. Damn, its worth way more now.

I have one Taylor, and a bunch of Trudjians, and one Krebs.

Hi Ty, I sent you an email a few days ago requesting that I be put on the list for a spinner. Did you receive that? It would have come from britton . alexander @ gmail

Thanks!

I don't think so. Hit me again at [email protected]

I usually send a response...

I am almost at the cut off time to know how many are needed.. I am at about 15 right now....

thanks Ty

Resent. You might want to check your spam folder. I verified that the previous email went through.

Flight Report

Equipment:
OS 160 2 cycle engine
Ram on-board glow driver (5000 mah battery)
Spring Air retracts (in stock location)
Zinger 17 x 10 prop
Aluminum spinner
Duralite receiver battery (mounted aft of pilot to balance plane)
Recommended control surface throws, per instructions.
CG - 115mm

First flight:
Ground handling good. Take off uneventful. Tracked straight down the runway. Normal amount of right rudder for tail dragger / warbird. Trim; added several clicks of down trim, two or three clicks of aileron trim. Engine running rich (not completely broken in). Plane is very stable and smooth in flight. Dropped full flaps on final. Did not use spoilers. Flame out on final. Barely cleared fence at the end of the field, plane on the edge of a stall, then stalled 2-3 feet above ground. Dropped flat, took out gear, no other damage.

Reinforced landing gear mounts. (keeping stock location)

Second flight:
Switched prop to APC 16x12 (much better!) Leaned out engine a bit. Plane flying much faster! Several low altitude, high speed passes had fellow club members drooling!! Same set up for landing; full flaps, no spoilers. Kept 3-4 clicks of throttle until over threshold. Came in a little hot. Used full runway to slow down.

Conclusion; This plane is very fun to fly and looks great in the air. P-51's and P-47's look out!!! Take offs and landing require your full attention. (as expected with a tail dragger warbird with narrow gear) I would not move CG forward (of 115mm) unless I re-positioned the gear. (as others have done) Having the CG close to the position of the main wheels could lead to nose overs on take off. [img][/img]

What restract are you all using in this Bird. I can't decide what to get?

RE: CMP BF109F BUILDING THREAD

Sierra Giant makes a set designed specifically for this plane. Those are the ones Im using....especially since Im the one that sent darrel my wing so he could size the gear to it. They are very, very strong.
Others are using Shindin. Some ppl have also reworked the retract rail position and moved the gear slightly forward

RE: CMP BF109F BUILDING THREAD

I see that serrira has the retract for the KMP Must not for the CMPro. Do you just use the one for the KMP

I have 2,:
Im using spring airs in my out of the box one, and Century jet ones in the one I'm making more scale correct.

Steve , does CJ make a specific gear for this plane and if so do you have to move the gear inward ?
My concern with the sierra gear is that it will limit prop size based on the lenght of the leg .

They did the same thing with the P40 hear , they (sierra sells the same gear for the 64" Top Flight p40 as they do for the 73" CMP . So they do not take any prop/engine size into account at all . If the Top flight P40 was designed for a 90 thru 120 and the CMP Is designed for a 150 thru 180 , yuo can see my point in prop clearance .
I dont like the one size fits all mentallity .

I am thinking of getting the sierra gear made for the KMP BF 109 , that way I know I will need to do work but it wont limit my prop clearance

No CJ retracts not specifically for this 109. But I change things as needed.
I try to use what I have laying around. I have a lot of hardware. Hardware usually survives most of my crashes!

Negative. Sierra has special gear that fits the stock wing retract rails and the slight forward strut angle channel in the wing. Send Darrel an email.

prepairing to install retracts.

first step is to remove the front mount. I ran a x-acto #26 blade between the front Landing Gear mount and the support as far down as I can. Then grab it with a pair of pliers and twist it till it breaks free from the end I can reach. Pull that end out, push back in and repeat till it can be pulled out.

Use the removed support to make new ones out of maple.

I don’t know what the old EM material is but it sure has the feel of Balsa.

I cut out the replacement front landing gear mounts. I cut the side ears .200 thick when the original ears were .300 thick. It is my intent to mount the new rail with the ear on top, originally ear on the bottom, this will mount the rail .200 lower. Thus giving me most of the .250 shim I usually put under the back rail for ARF’s. hopefully allowing the strut to recess into the wing.

Well I got some gear coming from larry at Shindine. We will see how they look

Keep me posted I am in the market for gear , I am either buying the KMP gear made by sierra that will require mods or the simple sierra CMP drop in gear or now lets see what lennys look like ,
Thanks

I used retracts from Larry at Shindin Machine made for the KMP 109. They are extremely well made and function well. The KMP ones are longer than the Sierra gear made for the CMP 109 but I wanted this in order to move the gear to a more scale location with a more scale rake and lenght. I am happy with them so far. RE: CMP BF109F BUILDING THREAD

Dorny , so you bought them from Lenny ... Good to know that you like them , they appear scale in the location .'I going with the either the sierra for the KMP or Lennys

After CA’ing the ply supports back together I epoxied in the maple landing gear rails in place .200in lower than original location. Then filled the box between the Leading edge and the front landing gear rail with expanding foam. Then cut away the foam I don’t need.

I’m planning to use a set of Rhom-Airs, with the struts and wheels shown.
