RE: CMP BF109F BUILDING THREAD

My issues is I have the CMP Fw190 still in a major bash (on this site ) I did not feel like taking on the work to get the sierra gear (KMP) to fit . My problem with the sierra made for this plane is they look bad(my opinion ) too short ,

The robart option looks like it would work , adding the after market robart struts is a no brainer , even some VQ struts that I have on hand would work , Fetsou , do the gear have the semi scale look when extended down ?

Thanks again for the pics , i will also modify the wheel well and modify some williams brothers wheels to fit

The kit (airplane) contain a Struts covers. It look well but i ha no install because we have a grass runaway. Unfortunately i have no pics with the struts cover... Robart is a realy good retracts system and work very well...

As I mentioned in earlier posts, the shorter gear is not all bad. For one thing longer gear puts the wheels even further out into a wing that is already a tight fit for wheels that look anywhere close to stock. The shorter gear is also less prone to ripping out of the wing and makes the plane ground handle better. Adding wheel pants is a must, because it makes the plane look much better on the ground than having two skinny struts. It would be a shame to put some nice long scale looking gear on the plane, then use tiny little wheels that look totally non-scale. My Sierra gear has worked flawlessly without any problems, and I'm glad I got it.

Don't use the rubber engine vibe mounts that come with this kit! I was breaking in my engine and I noticed the engine was really vibrating wildly at low RPMs. All of the mounts cracked or broke. I replaced them with aluminum stock.

I tried my new engine mount out, yesterday. It was a great deal better. No vibration! Perhaps my engine is too large for those rubber vibe mounts.

Haven't got my spinner yet but it is on the way. I want to polish mine too. My experience in the past has been to chuck the spinner onto a drill press and use emory paper or tape. Depending upon the initial roughness of the metal I usually start with 220 grit and work up to 800 or so. Finish out with very fine pumice on a wet cloth. Use rouge on a VERY soft cloth for the final high shine.

Do the polished spinners take to paint well? I always thought you wanted them a bit scuffed for the paint to grab onto....

I would scuff and paint the spinner. A polished spinner just does not look right on a 109F. Paint some cool spirals or a black and white scheme on it and you'll love the look when it is fired up.

Thanks for all the info on this 109. Has anyone been able to compare this Arf's quality/flying qualities to the ESM/KMP 109? I can get the CMP for much less.

Just got my Spinnerin the mail not more than an hour ago. It look's even better in reality! Nice job Ty! Now it's off to work following the video set up Ty made. I'm still not sure what tools to use to cut and shape her with. Never worked much with metal. Don't want to screw it up. I have a Dremmelwith cutters and sanders. Any other Ideas on how I should start my cut outand shapeprocess for the best results? How do you guys do this sort of thing?

The quality of the ESM ME-109 is better regarding the fiberglass. That being said, the CMP is not bad either. As for flying traits...well..depends on if you mean EASE of flying or scale flying. They both fly well, but the CMP handles better on the ground(slighty wider gear placement). I think the CMP lands easier, but, remember they are different versions of the same basic plane. The aerodynamics are different since the CMP is a F/G model with a more rounded nose(less drag).
You wont be disappointed by either, but price wise, well, they are about the same. TBM or VQwarbirds sell the ESM ME-109 for 299. AK-models and nitroplanes sell the CMP for 269. Hobbycity use to have the CMP in stock and sold it for 199, but shipping was pretty high.

If you get the ESM...dont buy the ESM retracts. Get Sierra Giant or Shinden.
Same brands for the CMP.
