I think the prop is large as stated for the one gas engine I am showing , if I have to go over $225 , I want to give the ASP 180 4 stroke a try , HK has them for $239

Well I had this engine in my super decatholon, And it needed more power. So I got a 40cc for the SD and just figued I would use the 35 for the 109. Yes it is over kill, But I going to be running a 3 blade 18in prop. It will look great. This prop will almost be a scale size.

When running big you can never have "over kill"
We don't have complex gear reductions so if you want large props, you have to have LARGE engines....
no way getting around it...

so you are useing the 35 for the Bf109 , how are you getting the ground clearance ? what gear are you useing ?

RE: CMP BF109F BUILDING THREAD

most 26cc can use a 18inch 2blades and guys are using them on this one..
18inch 3-blade wouldn't add any issues with clearance??
Or is a 18" blade too big for most?

Big props look good on the ground, but the bigger the prop the more the torque affect on takeoff is amplified. This plane does not have the biggest rudder in the world, so you'll have to be very smooth on the throttle when taking off. Another thing that makes the torque affect worse is the angle of attack on the landing gear. Using a bit shorter gear can help reduce rudder needed on takeoff by quite a bit. My 1.60 OS turns a 17X10 prop, not small by any measure, but I was surprised that the plane is not too hard to get down the runway straight as long as I bring in the power slowly.

RE: CMP BF109F BUILDING THREAD

My question on clearance was based on useing the sierra gear for this plane . I bought the gear and shorter then typical standoff scale /coorect side .
I went for the magnum 180 4 stroke , I think I am crazy and been an os /saitio guy fater having problems with the Magnums in the 91 size .
THis will either be my last magnum or it will get me back into the brand. At $280 vs $449 I figured it was one more try .

Hot rod , great point on the torque comment , I have had many rudder battles with 91 and 125 4 strokes with large props

Well I got the CMP Me 109in with the canopy. The canopy was still in the bag. I opened it and it was already cracked in 3 places WOW they are brittle. I was able to fix the canopy and made a mold of the canopy. The canopy is really hazy too..
I was able to pull a clear canopy. I have to fix a couple inperfections before I pull more...

I will start on the cockpit and make a installation vid as usual...Maybe I'll have it done by next week...

Ty, I'm interested in a couple of these canopies as well as a couple of cockpits for this aircraft.
I wanted to turn mine into a g model and was wondering if you are planing on making the gun and wheel bulges also?
I'm going to send you an e-mail in a little while to order a couple of things from you.
thanks
J.C.

Thanks Ty.
while I'm thinking about it, it would be great if you come out with a Garland Hood also.

Guys,
I'll look into a Galland canopy. But I have 3 more planes comming in next week. I am going to try to knock this off this weekend. One thing about this canopy it would be harder to change due to the recess all the way around the canopy area...

RE: CMP BF109F BUILDING THREAD

Ty,

Its a chronic issue. The first canopy I got was badly cracked, the 2nd on to replace that one was cracked WORSE than the 1st. The third replacement was actually cracked IN HALF, the long way. The fourth one was finally good.

Not sure why anyone would want to do a Erla style canopy on these planes. The Luftwaffe really didn't start using them until the G6, and these planes need a lot of work to look like the G6 and up aircraft...

Then again, if Ty does end up making the lumps and bumps...

Bumps are good. Put me down for two canopies, two interiors and two sets of bumps(if you decide to make these)! Tero T

I'm also interested in a canopy and cockpit kit when they are available. Please keep us all informed. This airplane just doesn't look right without detail in the cockpit!

Ok Guys here are pic's of the Cockpit kit for the CMP 109. I still have to figure out the headrest. I will do one out of ABS but you will most likely have to double it with 1/64 or 1/32 ply. Abs would be too flimsy with a vibrating motor ... As always my cockpits are a start for someone who is wanting to add to the look of their plane. My kits are not dead nuts scale but I do use documentation to get
something in the ballpark...You guys can do alot better job of painting than I can...

A 1/6 scale pilot will fit into this cockpit. Here is a real cheap one I used. You do have to remove the knees down . because you would run into the front panel. The rudder petals were behind the instrument panel...
