RE: CMP BF109F BUILDING THREAD
ORIGINAL: messer Thanks. What's the size of the Platt spinner.... Are the slots cut for the prop? Is it close to the one in the Bf-109 kit?, Messer Slots are NOT cut for a prop. However, if you emailed him and ask if he'd do it for you, he might, I dont know. I had a friend do it for mine. The Platt spinner is a true to scale shape. |

RE: CMP BF109F BUILDING THREAD
Hi all, I have a question about gasoline engine for this bird, can the DLA30 fit in the cowl and that engine enough power?
Thanks, Tom |
RE: CMP BF109F BUILDING THREAD
The DLE 30 has more then enough power for this plane. will it fit in the cowl completely? Well....probably not.
Experten is doing a bash on this plane and hes using a DLE20 and got it to fit completely, however, the DLE30 may not. See his thread here for pics showing the motor clreanance: http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/fb.asp?m=10410391 |

I used the Platt spinner, it works great. You must make some sort of prop adaptor though, you cannot just tighten a screw down on the nylon spinner. Here's what my adaptor looks like, along with the finished spinner.

RE: CMP BF109F BUILDING THREAD
thanks, I'll look into the plat spinner.. as long as there's a 3-blade available.

RE: CMP BF109F BUILDING THREAD
Here is a youtube video of a custom 1/5 scale me-109 designed and built in Finland. There is a shaft extention on the motor allowing the head of the motor to be in the lower chin scoop. The designer built a 1/5 scale version and a 1/4 scale. I believe if my eyes are correct this is the 1/5 scale. I owned one of his handful of kits way back in the 90's but due to work never got to finish it and sold it( much regrets) . Anyhow I have two cmp's on the go in the shop. Here's a couple of new in-flight photos of my 109 from last weekend. I enjoy it so much I'm thinking I should get a spare kit for the day when this one wears out.

Nice! What color and type of paint did you use for the rudder and engine cover?, Messer

RE: CMP BF109F BUILDING THREAD
Any one used DLA32 or DLE30 for this bird please post the pictures inside the engine area so I can copy :D

You can use any paint, testors, krylon, it doesn't matter. Coat over the paint with minwax matte finish polyurethane (in the spray can, NOT the water based). I also used the minwax to put a coating over the decals I added, it matches the stock finish very well and holds up better than anything in glow fuel. For Gas power, I can't say how it would do.

RE: CMP BF109F BUILDING THREAD
Looks great. What type of engine are you using? I'm thinking about using a OS 1.60 2 stroke. Also, are the throws correct in the manual? Are you mixing in any elevator when deploying the flaps?,
Thanks, Messer |
RE: CMP BF109F BUILDING THREAD

OS 1.60 with an APC 17X10 prop. It's been a few years, so I'm not sure about the throws. I believe the recommended throws are OK as a starting point. I don't mix any elevator in with the flaps. Once I go above half flaps they function as air brakes to help slow the plane, something it needs with a 10 pitch prop. The high pitch prop allows me to cruse around at half throttle (over 100 mph) to save fuel because I have the stock fuel tank.
|
RE: CMP BF109F BUILDING THREAD
100mph @ 1/2 throttle? thats crazy fast! :D
|
RE: CMP BF109F BUILDING THREAD
Keep in mind that 1/2 on the stick is far more than half RPM (or thrust). Wide open it does 120mph as measured on my radar gun. It uses much less fuel at 1/2 though, allowing for decent flight times even with the relatively small stock tank.
|
RE: CMP BF109F BUILDING THREAD
what would you figure on a 16x10 3-blade with my DLE20? 80mph maybe?
