Prekin,
CMP provide the plastic servo covers that you see in post #1948 in the middle of the 1st photo.
These are indeed practical but I decided to replace them only because they didn;t look scale.

I spent a full day doing this mod, fitting and adjusting the 4 flap servos and pushrods as they are on a single channel and all travel, endpoints etc is adjusted mechanically. If that is too much bother, one can use a "matchbox" which is an electronic device that sets servo endpoints on a single channel - its a time saver.

I used a matchbox

Painting time: I tested various modelling paints and was disappointed to see that although the undersurface RLM 78 Light Blue is quite standard with small deviations between brands, the top RLM 79 Sand varies considerably.

It took some research to find the answer, it turns out that in fact there were 2 sets of Sand colour for Luftwaffe in North Africa, the earlier Italian-origin that were lighter and the later German that were a richer dark red hue.

Painting with the darker colours as base, and will use the lighter shades for weathering

I got the decals from [link=http://www.callie-graphics.com/airplanes.php]Callie Graphics[/link], she actually had this plane already on her files

They look very good, however this is thick (0.3 mm) vinyl, OK for small recesses like panel lines but not for curved 3D surfaces like the aft fuse radio compartment

OK, let's make it look like a sand-beaten fighter! I used Artist's Oil colours and White Spirit for the oil wash.

Now the panel lines and rivets start to show

Yes is not bad, , I can say fantastic :)

I use another product for Oil and dust-oil for panels and rivets . Here you can see how I did : http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/fb.asp?m=10988412

Beautiful! I 'll have to go fix mine, landing gear block ripped out again. I love the way she flies but the ground handling is taking a lot of work. My first paint job was as Marseille's wing man, then I redid it European colors.

I love the fighters line-up. Which P-40 is that?

W1nd6urfa,

I have checked out what you said in the other thread and you are right Hans did not fly an EMIL in North Africa and I really want to do a RC model of his Yellow 14 in a 73" size BF-109 so it looks like I will be getting the CMP 109 after all. My CRRC 26r mounts just like your DLE-20 so I know from looking at your pic's it will fit with out any trouble. Thanks for you help and you have a bueatiful BF-109. I hope mine comes out as good.;)

I love your paint scheme w1nds6urfa, you could use a nicer tailwheel to match the great scale work you did on the rest of the plane. The 1.20 size unit from Hobby King is great for $5.95. With a small mod it fits perfect and actually looks pretty scale. Here's some photos of my install.
