the Dragons pilots look very nice. Do you know what is the weight and height (1/5 and 1/6 scale) of these pilots? I thinking about one Dragon pilot for the ESM La-7.

281 grams or 9.9 oz. The weight varies by pilot, but not by much, depending on the clothing and gear. 1/6th scale puts them at about 12"

i do not know about the 1/5th scale pilots. I do not have any. The pilots I have will fit in my ME109 and my ESM Stuka, but just fit with no room to spare.<br type="_moz" />

I also have a CMP Zero 80". I plan to use a Ken doll with the face altered to look Japanese. A frien of my daughter is sewing up the flights Suit etc for me. I am using the Ken doll head because it is a bit larger than the Dragon figures so should be closer to the Zeros size.

As same as you I thinking about a Ken. If I bouht I would use head, arms and clothes. And I would make new body and legs, because a Ken doll is heavy.

If you go on ebay via this link http://www.ebay.ca/itm/1-6TH-SCALE-W...item2a19a447f1 you will see a seller who makes insignia for 1/6 scale pilots. He had Soviet airforce insignia in the past. Send him a message and he will get them for you. I have a set of Soviet insignia as well. You can get the 1/6 Soviet uniforms of ebay quite reasonably. Most late war Soviet pilots wore the same uniform as the infantry with just different collar or epaulet insignia. Tero T in Toronto

Wow! I guess you can buy stuff real cheap when the company you buy it from employs slave labor.

I paid a fair price for the pilot bust - turns out it was a one-of-a-kind scale that fit the CMP Pro Bf-109 - and it is a plastic shell - very light weight.

I did the painting myself.

Hi all,
I picked one up 2nd hand, built but never flown. It is built well from an experienced scratch builder, with 2 elevator servos using gold'n'rods.

I will do a mini build log with the important mods only.

But before spending endless hours painting and detailing I will maiden her and fix any early issues.

I installed a DLE 20 which fits rather well in the spacious nose.

I also replaced the 90-degree retracts with 80-degree borrowed from an ESM Bf-109 E, wheel wells will be enlarged to fit 100 mm wheels.

After reading this thread I ordered the Dave Platt spinner, but also made an aluminum backplate for the stock one thinking that it would be safe ... but more on this later

Next up was cooling air inlet and outlet ducts from .5 mm aluminum sheet.

Cowl was painted RLM 04 yellow, oil washed and sealed with polyester clear varnish.

Maiden time:
The first 3-4 flights on a Saturday were easy and uneventful, it almost needed no trimming at all. DLE-20 turning a 16x8 3-blade at 8,000 was plenty of power, the AUW dry was just under 6 kg.
I didn't use any flaps for landing it didn;t need it anyway.

On the Sunday I was flying in formation with a Spitfire and a Dewoittine and suddenly there was what looked like an explosion in the 109's nose, the plane shook but carried on flying ... I landed immediately and ofcourse the stock spinner had disappeared, so finally the alum backplate is not safe!

You can image the comments I received from the "Allied" pilots ... Hans-Joachim would be terribly ashamed [:@]

Who's prop is that 16x8x3 ? Kinda looks like the Hobby King 3 blade series.

Let us know how they perform. I have a two bladed on mine right now but would like to put a three blade prop on it.

The 16x8x3 is "just right", it unloads at about 8,500 rpm in a shallow dive picking up plenty of speed for long uplines, large loops, etc. It also slows down well for flap-less landings. It does look rather small and slim on the 109, but I didn't want to put a larger engine to keep the weight down. Overall I'm happy with it.

I will try the 17x8x3, if its too large I will trim it down 1/2"

The other feature that kills the scale look of this plane are those awful looking servo covers, they were replaced by standard ply covers.

The flap servo horns were placed in the wing, a bit hard to install but looking neat:

w1nd6urfa , I see you chose great project, the spinner is fantastic.
The way how did you hide the servos in the wing is your idea, or this way is in the CMP instruction manual?
