Hi Dave
The 4in just fit in the wing, a bigger wheel you will have to cut away the wing spar to make it fit Mike |
https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rcu...081b22b2a.jpeghttps://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rcu...593c44a00.jpeg Ok thanks. i drew up a scale hub to replace the William bros 3.5” wheels that came with my landing gear, but I have just ordered some flexible fillament to try printing my own wheels. Guys in Germany are actually using 3D printed wheels and hubs on a 1:3 scale turbine powered BAe Hawk with great success, so I’m going to have a crack at it myself. This Williams bros wheels will be my fall back if I can win with the flexibale filament. |
Man, that is cool!
|
Nice job on the wheels
mike |
Thanks guys:) i over vapored that hub so its lost a little detail. I forgot it was in the vapor jar :D my customer build is progressing well. If I can get it to paint this week it’s all the closer to the 109 project starting!!!! https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rcu...b56ac57c1.jpeg |
Got the BF 109 to the field today on it's forth visit and it finally got maiden'ed, after some minor trimming it flew well, inverted it and it is just a little nose heavy, an easy fix, came in with full flaps and it landed very gently on the mains, then the tail came down, very happy with it, will get a couple of more flight days in then it will go to the paint hanger, no spinner fitted cut yet as not sure which prop I will end up withhttps://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rcu...54a6c3f2ba.jpg
All ready to go Mike |

New canopy and pilot https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rcu...b4b7134f2d.jpg Canopy much more scale looking than the CMP one No more flights yet with the 109 as just to windy, I have taken a mold of the spinner and and then taken a fg one from the mold, the weight is about 1/3 of the original Mikehttps://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rcu...b201a70fd9.jpg mold taken from the original spinner https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rcu...4a167858e8.jpg New fg spinner and the original, one third of the weight |
The wind calmed down for a day and I managed to get two flights in, the C of G is good after moving it back a little after the maiden, beginning to feel comfortable flying it
Mikehttps://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rcu...2925f02866.jpg full flaps for landing |
Nice work mike! so where is your CoG set to now? is that one of Ty’s canopies? And are you making any more spinners |
Thanks, one more flight day and then I will paint detail it
The C of G is about 115mm now, the canopy is from parkflyer plastics, took a gamble as it is not shown as a CMP replacement, but it show's dimensions which seemed to be similar, it's the same length but sits lower on the fuselage which is how it should be, yes have the mold for the spinner but will not be making a back plate, have you made any progress with your build Mike |
does your spinner fit a platt back plate?
Joe |
Hi Joe
Yes it does, I kept the lip that goes into the back plate, its held on with a center bolt Mike https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rcu...f60efbdb40.jpg |
Well yes... and no. i finished the customer build which means I’m now free to build models for me:)but I haven’t done too much more to the 109.... yet. |
Got a couple of more flights with the 109, fitted a more scale looking prop and cut the spinner for the 3 blade prop, next I will get some paint on it and detail
Mike https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rcu...8b62cdad69.jpg |
Is that your new canopy fitted to the model? because It looks like its tinted in the pics?
I keep forgetting that you went electric with this one. I am still looking around for a 25-30cc motor for the 109, haven't decided on anything yet. |
Hi Dave
Yes that's the old yellow one that came with the kit, the new one will go on after the paint job, I will leave it to last as I hate painting canopy's Mike |
Got the fuselage all painted, just got to finish off the cockpit and canopy, I have made the canopy to open so some frame work will have to be made

Looking forward to getting it completed and in the air Mike |
That is looking awesome Limodune!!
Are you going to the GMAA event at coolum for ANZAC day? |
Hi Dave
No--we have a war bird day at TARMAC on the same weekend, a couple of weeks before that we host the Southern Cross war bird day also Just a couple of pics of it together, center canopy is not attached yet, guns and areal to be done also some panel lines and weathering Mike https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rcu...c32c6b6f65.jpg https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rcu...c5586b9593.jpg https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rcu...d4db113e12.jpg |
Got some frame work made up for the canopy out of 1/8'' ply, when the paint goes off I will install it, then can think about hinging it
Mikehttps://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rcu...16d6ac3bce.jpg |
Got the frames installed in the canopy and made up the wheel covers and a mast, finished off the panel lines and mild weathering, now all I have to do is enjoy flying it
