Hi Luke,

Yes, in fact you sent me two BEAUTIFUL canopies. The photos I've posted were before the maiden and had the stock canopy on it in case of a nose-over. Also did all of the experimenting for a functional canopy on the stock as well rather than fubar the better one that you so kindly provided. Would love to see any new progress on yours as well. As I recall you had a really nice tail gear going together at last post.

Cheers!

Lee

Hi all, I have possibility to buy CMP Zero 120 from the second hand. Is it possible to make two half wing, or this is only way to make the wing in one piece?

jornmarius 04-25-2015 12:10 AM

I'm guessing it can be devided in two.. not sure exactly how at the moment, but best tip is to find an assembly manual and study it.
How ever you might have to add some strength to the wings if its not allready equipped with a removable wing tube, like aluminium or simiar kind of pipe.. If not you have a quite big modification to make.
And would I do it then ? not really..If the model is in good shape, keep this major job in mind to do it later, if you by any chance have some big accident that causes you to re-skin the wing anyway.

Great to see my old thread going strong lol great to see you all of you again , I'm not as active in the rc community as I used to be being I moved from a house to an apt I'm extremely limited on space, needless to say most of my stuff is in storage can someone tell me if we can post video in a thread ? If so how ? I have a little clip I think you'll all enjoy lol

jornmarius 04-26-2015 01:46 AM

HI Zero-322.
I'd very much like to see your video clip.

Use quick reply section of this webpage.. there you have a row of icons.. Add video is the on second from the right..
Just follow the instructions, and yo'll get it uploaded.

ZERO-322 04-26-2015 11:36 PM

Seems like the only way is to upload it to YouTube first and then upload it here using the url , is there a work around ? I've never uploaded anything to youtube

jornmarius 04-26-2015 11:38 PM

Youtube is good.. :-)

ZERO-322 04-26-2015 11:42 PM

Prekin , the short answer to your question is yes you can but it would involve allot of reconstructing and reinforcing to do it , it's much simpler to leave it as one piece and put your efforts into reinforcing the landing gear mounts and rails , that would be time much better spent, and on this particular bird most will agree it's a must do

http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/atta...mentid=2092513This is with the cowling and aluminum slats installed, I figured should the exhaust rub the cowl I'd rather it aluminum rather then burning the fiberglass , they are adjustable to give me the clearances and wiggle room needed

jornmarius 04-27-2015 11:51 PM

This is looking great :-) ( although I did some effort to rebuild the slats on mine.. they could always come off using the dremel ;-), Cuz as you say, the alu takes the heat a lot better than fiberglass.

How did you fasten the cowling ? Where did you put the mounts ?

ZERO-322 04-28-2015 08:16 PM

I used the original cowl ring , I mounted it set forward of the firewall using some modified copper plumbing brackets I'll post some pic when I get home in the morning

ZERO-322 04-28-2015 08:22 PM

I took me so many tries to get everything neatly tucked and all the clearness correct , there is less then a 1/4 of the cylinder sticking out the bottom of the cowl , I cut the hole for cooling more then anything but I think I could have gotten away with not cutting the cowl at all, I can duplicate the exhaust almost at will lol I'm doing a yellow zero at the moment ( just the exhaust and engine ) I don't have the room to work on a whole plane anymore or the time

Just touching base to say I'm watching. I have one of these that I'm "pimping" as well, though I have not worked on it in quite some time. I'll get back to it sooner or later though. Here are a few pics of where I'm at.

I got one of the CMP Zero's. Mine has the servo's built in the stabs. Don't like that, think i'm going to install the servos in the belly. I'm going to use a Saito 180 in mine. You going a good job, keep it up.

jornmarius 04-29-2015 05:31 AM

Cool ! A Saito 180 will be just fine :-)
I have an ASP 180 four stroke in mine.. And it works just fine. there's plenty power.. however, you still have to add some lead to the nose. ( the previous owner glued in some lead balls in the air intake below the firewall. And I've got no Idea how much. )
I still had to ad a lump of 500 grams behind the motor. ( in the space between firewall and the back of the motor)

Did you have to move the servos? And why did u remove the covering on the stabs and rudder?

ZERO-322 04-29-2015 01:54 PM

What you see pic in mine is a DLE 30 I reversed the muffler to point up instead of down the battery mounted above the engine stand outs and the cdi, the copper exhaust and the heavier cowl slats all contributed to me having to add no additional weight

I was wounding how to make the Zero pipe's, l was going to make a ring, but, l like the way you did it. Did u sweet all the joints? I'll sweet all the joints and put a screw in mine because, l made one years a go for a .60 size Ag wagon (I want'ed smoke) . I use'd a K&B .61 (MAN, WHAT A P.O.S.) Anyway, The joints came apart after about, DUH! One flight. I can't maker up my mind what engine to use?? It's a CMP Zero, 80"Ws The kit say's to use a 30-50cc gas motor. I have a Satio 1.80 that l have been trying to trade off for two HK 26cc Gas motors. My brother pass'ed away and l have his airplane stuff. We had two of everything. We have two GP Super Chipmunks and mine had a DLE35Ra, his has the 1.80 in it. He would complain about the fuel it would use. But! Know l steep back and look at it all, I'm going to make this into a show (ONLY) plane, so the 1.80 may work out?? He said that it would burn a gal of fuel in two flights. Takes me back to the days of my Super Tiger 4500 I still got, that would burn 40oz's in 8Mins. No one wants it!! LOL Also, are you using retracts and if you are, what brand are you using? Takes a long leg. Keep posting, looks like it's going good.

ZERO-322 04-30-2015 07:09 PM

Sammy I used a metal epoxy called JB weld to glue the joints , this product is rated to 600 degrees additionally after this set up I sweated the joints with Flux to seal any air or exhaust leaks, it's held up just fine for almost 2 yrs and I've run it a half dozen times, the DLE 30 was a perfect fit and plenty of power, however I've also heard of people using a DLE 20 with success , retract wise I've installed a set of Lado 60-1 electric retracts (once you go electric you never will go back ) lol , I know it will take some hunting within this thread in the earlier pages but you'll see I've also cut into the wings and installed the split flaps, all of the hard work is done , but I have yet to put a finish on mine and it could use a better looking canopy anyone know we're I can find one ?

ZERO-322 04-30-2015 07:11 PM

Oh also Sammy the 120 size zero is a 72 " wingspan not 80" if yours is the 80 I'd defiantly go bigger on the engine min a 35cc gasser 55cc would be ideal

LOL there ZERO-323, my frist one was the 120 size. I spent 3Mo's. with a Hobby pen in front of the TV drawing panel linens & rivets. I went with a G23. I had a set of OLD-OLD Robarts manual retracks. l went with the 23cc gas becouse it need'ed the wight and l used the motor on the same size plane and it work'ed out well. also used a three blad prop. l have just bought a HK26cc gas motor for a 80" (Wifess) RCAF Chipmunk and if it works out, l may buy a nuttier one. lt had set a bet, it but started up and tuned. BUT! for some resin when l took off it would get about 5Ft and die? We tuned on that thing for two Hr's on the ground and on a tabel and pointting to the ski?? l don't care what you would do, it would do the same thing every time. This was at a airshow and a guy offerd me a trade and lt was GONE! Well, l did not realize how attached my wife was with this plane. (It was the first plane we did togather) Now l got this one and l want do a showing nice job for her. She's a X Airforce F-4 engine tech. She's as bad as l am buying airplane stuff as l am. (Works out good taking her with me to the hobby shop) LOL........ Please show more photos. You can also send info to my E-Mail [email protected] Thanks for the comeback. Injoyed hearing and would like to see more.
