Hi Luke,
Yes, in fact you sent me two BEAUTIFUL canopies. The photos I've posted were before the maiden and had the stock canopy on it in case of a nose-over. Also did all of the experimenting for a functional canopy on the stock as well rather than fubar the better one that you so kindly provided. Would love to see any new progress on yours as well. As I recall you had a really nice tail gear going together at last post. Cheers! Lee |
Hi all, I have possibility to buy CMP Zero 120 from the second hand. Is it possible to make two half wing, or this is only way to make the wing in one piece?
|
I'm guessing it can be devided in two.. not sure exactly how at the moment, but best tip is to find an assembly manual and study it.
How ever you might have to add some strength to the wings if its not allready equipped with a removable wing tube, like aluminium or simiar kind of pipe.. If not you have a quite big modification to make. And would I do it then ? not really..If the model is in good shape, keep this major job in mind to do it later, if you by any chance have some big accident that causes you to re-skin the wing anyway. |
Great to see my old thread going strong lol great to see you all of you again , I'm not as active in the rc community as I used to be being I moved from a house to an apt I'm extremely limited on space, needless to say most of my stuff is in storage can someone tell me if we can post video in a thread ? If so how ? I have a little clip I think you'll all enjoy lol
|
HI Zero-322.
I'd very much like to see your video clip. Use quick reply section of this webpage.. there you have a row of icons.. Add video is the on second from the right.. Just follow the instructions, and yo'll get it uploaded. |
Seems like the only way is to upload it to YouTube first and then upload it here using the url , is there a work around ? I've never uploaded anything to youtube
|
Youtube is good.. :-)
|
Prekin , the short answer to your question is yes you can but it would involve allot of reconstructing and reinforcing to do it , it's much simpler to leave it as one piece and put your efforts into reinforcing the landing gear mounts and rails , that would be time much better spent, and on this particular bird most will agree it's a must do

http://www.rcuniverse.com/forum/atta...mentid=2092513This is with the cowling and aluminum slats installed, I figured should the exhaust rub the cowl I'd rather it aluminum rather then burning the fiberglass , they are adjustable to give me the clearances and wiggle room needed
|
This is looking great :-) ( although I did some effort to rebuild the slats on mine.. they could always come off using the dremel ;-), Cuz as you say, the alu takes the heat a lot better than fiberglass.
How did you fasten the cowling ? Where did you put the mounts ? |
I used the original cowl ring , I mounted it set forward of the firewall using some modified copper plumbing brackets I'll post some pic when I get home in the morning
|
I took me so many tries to get everything neatly tucked and all the clearness correct , there is less then a 1/4 of the cylinder sticking out the bottom of the cowl , I cut the hole for cooling more then anything but I think I could have gotten away with not cutting the cowl at all, I can duplicate the exhaust almost at will lol I'm doing a yellow zero at the moment ( just the exhaust and engine ) I don't have the room to work on a whole plane anymore or the time

322,
Just touching base to say I'm watching. I have one of these that I'm "pimping" as well, though I have not worked on it in quite some time. I'll get back to it sooner or later though. Here are a few pics of where I'm at. http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b3...O/COCKPITA.jpg http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b3...ERO/TAIL_B.jpg http://i23.photobucket.com/albums/b3...ERO/FUSE_B.jpg |
Cool ! A Saito 180 will be just fine :-)
I have an ASP 180 four stroke in mine.. And it works just fine. there's plenty power.. however, you still have to add some lead to the nose. ( the previous owner glued in some lead balls in the air intake below the firewall. And I've got no Idea how much. ) I still had to ad a lump of 500 grams behind the motor. ( in the space between firewall and the back of the motor) |

What you see pic in mine is a DLE 30 I reversed the muffler to point up instead of down the battery mounted above the engine stand outs and the cdi, the copper exhaust and the heavier cowl slats all contributed to me having to add no additional weight

Sammy I used a metal epoxy called JB weld to glue the joints , this product is rated to 600 degrees additionally after this set up I sweated the joints with Flux to seal any air or exhaust leaks, it's held up just fine for almost 2 yrs and I've run it a half dozen times, the DLE 30 was a perfect fit and plenty of power, however I've also heard of people using a DLE 20 with success , retract wise I've installed a set of Lado 60-1 electric retracts (once you go electric you never will go back ) lol , I know it will take some hunting within this thread in the earlier pages but you'll see I've also cut into the wings and installed the split flaps, all of the hard work is done , but I have yet to put a finish on mine and it could use a better looking canopy anyone know we're I can find one ?
|
Oh also Sammy the 120 size zero is a 72 " wingspan not 80" if yours is the 80 I'd defiantly go bigger on the engine min a 35cc gasser 55cc would be ideal
