Vasek, The rest of the family is looking at late June /early July. Business has been just stupid busy the past 18 months, so I won't know if I'll be with them or not again this year until it gets closer. Will keep you posted. Thanks




Put some colour on the wings and am getting all of the surfaces reattached before camo and insignia. Also painted the belly of the fuse. Not much to see different at this point. More pics when I make some noticeable progress.

Wish someone would stock this plane again so we could have another contributer to the thread....gettin' lonely here. Thanks to all for checking in just the same:D

So the wing is painted in the base colours and the weather has been too cold to do anything other than work in the house...no more paint for a few days. Got all of the control surfaces mounted and the flaps sync'd up so they get the same deflection in all positions. Had to make all of the adjustments mechanically and it was a royal PITA[:'(] A 10ch radio would be wonderfull about now! I'm using a Dx7 and all of the channels are spoken for so both the flap and aileron pairs have to be sync'd manually/mechanically.

I covered the wingtip light area inside the lense with foil to act as a reflector; it does a pretty good job and gives a good forward beam to the LED even though the emitter is facing outward...just a fortunate and unexpected bonus. Decided to use the foil tape as the method for mounting the tip lights as there was very little "meat" to run any screws through the lense or into the little step for mounting. Will look good as the foil "edging' will look much like the mounting flange on the full scale Zero once painted. Will be relatively easy to service later if necessary as well. I put painters tape around the tip and lense and cut a guide strip which was transferred to the foil to wrap around the wing tip properly.

Found some ridiculously small little screws for the formation light covers as well. I'm quite happy with the end result.

And lastly I had to fish all of the servo leads back up through the wing to the center because the tape let go inside after so many weeks of being moved all around and flipped this way and that. the three pigtails in front are the servo leads and the ones to the rear are the lighting leads. The battery is just loose on the wing for testing.

Oh, I got the pitot tube socket in the wing too.

frets, or somebody else, have you got some good picture of Zero´s engine? I have scale dummy engine and I want to modify for my Zero.

I just stumbled upon this thread while searching for stencils for the Zero. I am doing a makeover on my .60 size CMP. I can't wait until I get a little spare time to go back and read over what you have done. The last couple of pages look pretty inspirational!

Did you end up deciding to get the stencils made from Get Stencils? If so you will have saved me a whole lot of work! I should be able to get them to scale them down to fit :D

Looking forward to seeing the paint go on...

Sorry, no I have not sent anything to Vicky at GetStencils. I thought that I was going to be alot further along more quickly than it has turned out and didn't think I wanted to wait for the turn around. I ended up making a set of waterslide decals and will use a setting solution to "melt away" the carrier film. Tested it out on a mock-up surface and it works really well...the film completely disappears leaving nothing but the ink when clear-coated.
I can Email you the raw files if you want and you can do the same or I can fire them off to Vicky for you; what ever you like:D

Onward and upward...Finally have all of my paint done except for the tail number. Next up is to cut the mask for the "61-108", shoot it and then start the wearing and chipping away part of the weathering. After that: oil and grime, then clear satin KlassKote and finish will be done and over:)

Just a few teasers by lamp light...I'll get some in the sunlight when it stops raining...

I really like the Zero in any scheme, but I like to do schemes that are a bit different than what you would normally expect to see.

Just wait, my next project is going to be a pink/peach/orange 3-color camo Spitfire![X(]

Now I´ve done all my projects and I´m thinking what shall I do now. Do you know about building plan for the LaGG 3 in 70"-80" range?

It was a fairly common WWII British camo scheme for the twilight patrol and night recon planes as they typically departed and arrived at dusk and dawn. Makes sense due to the sky colour at those times and when it got full-on dark there was no real need for camo at all.

I know, there are some problems with uploading the pictures.
I´m interested in this paint scheme.

I´ve never seen any LaGG- 3 model, this is the reason why I thinking about it. It is challenge. ;)

Here ya go...

There's 11 fuselage x-sections centered on the thrust line for making the fuselage formers.
The wing is so close to a p-40 profile that you can get a set of Royal or Ziroli P-40 wing plans and modify them for size and standard type landing gear.
The tail section is easy enough from planviews and a symetrical airfoil.
So all that's left is the canopy. Again really close to a P-40 canopy for the front and sliding section so just the rear section sides to scratch build. So either pick up a 120 size p-40 canopy and modify or carve a plug and pull one yourself.

There you have a LaGG-3 :D

Yeees, I know this paint scheme. I thought, this one is from Africa. Because the color looks like a desert pink. So, thank you for new knowledge. Every time we can learn somethink new.

A bit of progress....

Wing cannon(s) are tubular brass and the the muzzle cone was done by spinning two progressive mandrels into the end. The steps at the rear end of the gun are hidden down inside the the recepticle tube mounted in the wing and serve to hold the cannon in the proper position/center.

Finished with sanding away the beautiful;) paint job to get a worn and battle weary effect. Just a few teaser pics for now.[&:]

Lastly; a quick trip to the self-serve copier/print shop and I have my decal sheets! They came out really well after tweaking the copier color and print density settings.

Busy time at the job and still managed to work in a productive several days of weathering and painting:) Finally today a decent day to get out in the natural light and get a few pics.......

I'm really quite pleased with the final presentation and it really feels like it's been worth the time. It's going to be too cold over the next several days to do my KlassKote clearcoat/scuff-proofing/fuel-proofing, so the plumbing and mounting of fuselage electronics will probably have to wait a few days. Maybe I'll get the canopy painted in the waiting time and figure out what to do about the wheels compressing/flattening so much under the weight....

Hopefully I'll be flying this thing by the middle or end of May:D

Beautiful work frets! It certainly appears to have been worth the effort from where I'm sitting. I'll bet it flies as good as it looks too.
