I wanted to go with something that was production and made in a reasonable amount to give us all a break from all the weird, unusual, and failed prototypes that we have had recently. Something even a casual lurker had a chance to discover. Making it to 15 clues I wasn't certain if I had done so.

Sorry to take so long I have either been in a doctor's office with the wife or down in Chickasha, OK looking over a pickup my son wanted to buy. He now owns a red 1986 Chevy C-10 short wide bed pickup. She was in fantastic shap for her age and his wife's uncle is going to help him do a light restoration. The uncle has a restoration shop and he had a 1946 Hudson I would just about kill to own.

Thank you, Sir. Actually, your last clue (Three crew members) didn't give it away; it simply gave me something to narrow down the field. Most of your clues were of a type which could only be used to verify the aircraft's identity; after I had found it. Knowing it had three crew members allowed me to narrow the field of contenders. I already had figured out it was probably British (Clue 5; How many "empires" did we have in the 20th century?) and knew it was probably twin engine (Clue 10). And now I'm going to return the favor and feature a military aircraft of a similar type, which was intended to have a civilian offspring. Good luck with the pickup. It sounds like a cool project. And I hope your wife is doing well. Thanks; Ernie P.

What warbird do I describe?

1. This aircraft was fast.

2. Literally.

Hydro Junkie 12-15-2020 03:50 AM

Okay, I know I'm probably wrong but I'll go with the NIMROD

Top_Gunn 12-15-2020 06:06 AM

Perhaps the Fleet Finch? Just looking at clue 2.

HJ; not the Nimrod, but you do earn a bonus clue to accelerate your search. And let me remind you: This time we're looking for a military aircraft that was to be developed into a civilian aircraft (it wasn't actually developed, but it was planned) rather than a military aircraft that was developed from a civilian aircraft. Thanks; Ernie P.

What warbird do I describe?

1. This aircraft was fast.

2. Literally.

3. It was one of a group of aircraft, popular in many countries at the time, designed to be bombers or reconnaissance aircraft.

Top_Gunn 12-15-2020 07:25 AM

Well, trying a different language then, how about the first of the Schnellbomber, the Do 17? The problem I see with this one, though, is that the intended civilian use seems to have come first, and may have been a pretext all along.

Al; I figured someone would guess the Do 17, although it isn't the right aircraft. It was however, one of the type for which we're looking. And, of course, you earn a bonus clue. Thanks; Ernie P.

Geez, Ernie. it was starting to sound like a Corsair and then you had to put a second tail on it. I was lost before and these last few clues show me I don't have the right road map
