Shane, dummy radial is a 7 1/2" Top Flite. A 1/8" lite ply backing and a little extra work. I removed the space between the bottom cylinders for cooling.
Then cut down the wooden cowl ring to 1/2" width. otherwise the cowl won't go on over the engine. I then replaced the mounting screws with 4 Neodymium magnets. That allowed me to get the cowl on over the dummy engine. You can't pull it off but; if u twist it about 3/8" you can then remove it.

I flew the Corsair today. it used up all the runway and i finally horsed it off. I had to call for help to give me 6 clicks of up trim. The rest of the flight was uneventful and a 1/2 flap landing went perfect. The Aerovate performed flawlessly and flew the airplane well at 1/2 throttle on a 17_8 Xoar. At Full throttle large loops were no problem, but coming out of a slight dive the airplane wants to HUNT. I have seen this on almost all Corsairs that were flying at high speed. I think I will try my 3 blade 16x10 next or an 18x6 Xoar. WE are at 4750' alt.
All things considered I am very Happy with the planes performance. The wing loading seems excessive but it doesn't seem to effect the overall flying. I tryed slow flight W/ flaps( 2 mistakes high) and saw no bad habits. Perhaps the airplane was a bit nose heavy and thats why it didn't lift off right away.

Thanks DOC. I have a G-38 for mine that will be turning a 17x10 3 blade or 18x8 or 10 two blade. I can't wait to get her flying. You said that you have the Sierra gear. Being that they are 100 degree rotators does the plane want to nose over on take or does the forward position of the wheels cure that? My H-9 Corsair was bad at that!

Can you tell me the weight of your muffler and engine? I'm curious if withe the Saigon 180 ill need as much nose weight?

DOC: at the end of your flight report you mentioned the airplane might be nose heavy. Are you considering moving the CG back just a little? or leave it like it is for a few more flights?

In your kit did you actually get servo mounting blocks that were angle cut at the bottom for the ailerons? Shows angled blocks which I do not see. Thanks.

Shane, The servo block in my kit did not have the angle as shown in the instructions.
Since you might be close to working on the flaps, here are some steps with dimensions shown and what I actually used. Don't use my dimensions without doing your own checking and measuring.

Step 10: 125 mm shown, 60mm my actual
Step 11: 72 mm shown, 60 mm my actual
Step 13: 104 mm shown, 59 my actual

As you can see a couple of dimensions are way different. Otherwise, my flaps are installed pretty much as per instructions and seem to work just fine.

Shane, No angle blocks, no blocks for the gear covers either. No nose over problems, and ill leave the cg where it is. I used a 4 oz brass spinner, and that may be too much since the airplane was balanced OK with a 1 0z aluminum. I flew today using a 2 oz alum.and it was just
fine.
No idea on engine weight w/muffler. No Specs on engine or muffler.

After several successful flights I have installed the tail wheel door .
The 16 x 10 3 blade just does'nt perform like the 18 x 6, 2 blade!

Any chance of some photo's of the tailwheel door setup?
I have a retractable tailwheel in mine , yet to do the doors as I havn't finished assembly yet.

The springs hold the doors open, and hold it closed when retracted !

I flew 3 flights this am. Seems to fly very well with a Xoar 17-8. Large loops, Cuban 8's, stall turns, etc, doesn't like flying inverted however. Our field is @ 4800 feet.

Doc, Brian, Anyone,

Can you guys give me some input on the flaps. I'm strugling with the whole assembly basically. To start, the wire that you have to install on the trailing edge is really causing me fits. Can anyone help.....Please!

Shane, The biggest problem with the flaps is the hinge height. I positioned the flaps on the wing and then adjusted ( shimmed the ply) hinges according to the height necessary to Keep the top of the flaps in the proper position. Since the flaps are of varying thickness, the flap bottoms vary from the wing height. I didn't even put the ply under one hinge, and used a 1/32" ply under another. No one sees the flap bottom anyway !
Forget the bent wire between the inboard and middle flap and use my method as outlined. Its scale and works perfect...............!
Glue the wire in the outboard flap.

Shane, Don’t know how it compares to others but I spent about 15 hours over 5 days working on just the flaps. Use the following at your own risk, but if I was to do it again, I’d work it in this type of sequence...
1. Put a layer or two of tape on the sides and front of the flaps. This is to make sure there is some space between each flap and the wing or adjacent flap when you fit them.
2. Skip to step 12. Bend the wires and fit them in the flaps. Don’t worry about them working smoothly yet.
3. Tape and clamp the flaps in the up position on the wing.
4. Skip to step 14. Place the plies on the wings and flaps. The dimensions between hinges shown here worked for me. Also look at Step 15 to see how the plies are set up.
5. Once the hinges and plies look like they placed OK, make the plie locations.
6. Put epoxy on the plies and tape them in place. See the attached picture.
7. Once the epoxy is dry, go to step 16. Take the wires out of the flaps. Take off the tape from Step 1. Install the innermost flap. Make sure it move OK. Install the middle flap and wire. Check movement. Then install the outer flap and wire. Note that you can remove the flaps with this type of hinge installation. I think you could come back in modify the flaps with Doc’s method after they are hinged.
8. Remove the flaps from the wing.
9. Do steps 9 though 12. I found various dimensions in these steps did not work for me. Step 10 (60mm instead of 125mm), Step 11 (60mm instead of 72mm), Step 13 (59mm instead of 104mm). Do your own measurement though.
10. Install the innermost flap to do the line up for Step 13 linkage rod.
11. Do step 13 connector installation.
12. Install all the flaps and wire.

Good luck with your build. Just finished with mine. Need to run the engine, then get it in the air.

Has anyone found a suitable pilot for this acft ? I have a 1/6th scale but it weighs 4oz and is a little too big ! As you can see in the pictures a pilot would complete this plane nicely.

Sunny, The Aerovate 26 is perfect. I fly at ~ 75% power and it is perfect. On 16 oz I could fly 20 minutes, but i can only handle about 10. Big loops are no problem at full power. No complaints on the engine. I have added a second small Air tank to allow a few touch and go's. No leaks , but with the Sierra's they use a lot of air and one small tank is marginal .
