Default Redcat LIGHTNING STR (2spd clutch help)

hi there.

my lightning str doesn't shift into 2nd gear anymore, after doing some research and looking at the car itself. it seems that it lost the "set screw" (part #02099). looking at the exploded view on the transmission system, i'm not sure if the #02099 is all i need or if there is a small spring like item that need to go in behind it?
the 2spd clutch itself has the part #02045, if that is important...

when i turn the car upside down and look at the transmission system from the bottom i see the hexhead type screw that holds the clutch itself in place but the "hole" next to it is empty.

will this problem resolve by simply adding a new #02099 adjustment screw back into the hole? if so, i found out that the "deepth" of screw matters on how soon or late the 2nd gear will ingage. any help in the matter is greatly appreciated!

thanks in advance, Rob

Have you tried putting a hex key in the adjustment hole?  It's very hard to see the set screw when it's in the hole.  If it is actually missing, there is a spring that pushes the arm out to engage the second spur gear.

i will check it out once i get home from work. if in any case the screw is still attached. what else could cause the car to stop shifting?

received it a week ago, broke in the engine... worked perfectly fine the day before, don't see anything broken/wrong from it. without taking things apart.

help would be grealty appreciated

the little plastic piece on the 2nd gear that catches the clutch when it extends out might have broken, it happened to me a couple times before the second speed gear might be stripped but i doubt that as your saying it looks fine, check it out and keep us posted

all along i thought it was the "set screw" that activates 2nd gear... after taking the whole transmission apart i found that the clutch was spinning freely. so after going to my LHS and picking up a pack of screws, going home and putting it all back together. my lightning str ran just like it did the day before
only thing i have to do once it cools is adjust the set screw for 2nd gear. it seems to be shifting alot sooner then before. now it shifts into 2nd gear right around 10yards of full trottle. it seems it takes 2nd gear just about a second to fully accelerate again to get to top speed.

will test this out tomorrow and see if it helps

thanks again!
