well i've been dealing with nitro cars and trucks for a long time.. But before there were these companies.. I made upgrades myself based on my automotive career. With the plastic o.e. exhaust. I first took it apart and removed the baffle in side.. Very simple.. Tested it and tuned for it.. Worked good. Then i enlarged the inlet side of the plastic exhuast that bolts to the head.. Tested an tuned it.. I was told and did it myself from some great rc guys that to ditch the gasket.. And i did.. I just used some sandpaper on the engine and plastic to make a very nice match.. And the last thing i did was to enlarge the exhuast hole.. With a drill.. Taking step by step to enlarge it without breaking it.. And again. Tested and tuned.. Kept seeing performance gaingin and the exahust getting louder lol.. Then i got out the dremmel to enlarge the port on the engine block to match the inlet side of the exhaust.. cost me nothing. And worked out great.

A note for the unexperienced....make SURE you flush the motor out extremely well afterwards if you decide to open up the exhaust port more....you don't want any metal shavings in your crackcase!

I blew it up!!!! not really

I have no clue how this happened--maybe because I bash the heck out of it--i blew up a "sliding bearing 15*10*4" (inside the rear diff, that goes around the universal joint). All gears have little to no ware on them at all, just the bearing that went. The outside ring/shell split across and caused some major drivetrain noise.

I guess this is a warning to check you bearings regularly---at least nothing else went with it!!!

Got a ? some where in earlyer post plastic gears were refered to inside the diff. was that suposed to be the center diff or front and rear diffs? because on my truck all gears inside front and rear diffs are metal...just curious.

Good point exceller8 you can also put some thick grease on your bits to keep most of the shavings from going into the aluminum.. They will stick to the grease and not fall in.. Cause as you know it will travel upwards..

btw.. diffs are enclosed in a diff case like your front and rear diff is.. And the other gears that are exposed are your spur.. Usually plastic and large and the pinion usually connected to the bell.. Both on the Engine Peace!!!

I understand that I was only wondering if some of these trucks/buggies had plastic gears in the front and rear diffs, like I thought I saw someone say in a earlier post.

Very nice black dog,I like the flame style bodies,I think I might have to order one for my Tornado XP as a back up or something. Here are some pics of mine .

Anyone know what grease or oil would be good for the front and rear diff? Mine work but arent that smooth,feel kinda clickity? I got some black,thick bearing grease at work I can snag a few small cups of and pack the front and rear diff to smooth em up if ya'll think its a good idea..... ???? Clean them out good first of course.

hey i'm going to be getting a failsafe for my buggy too should i just get the one from futaba, since the radio system is going to all futaba parts?? and i know that it will plug in just fine

Not sure about the Futaba fail safe,I use the venom and it was well worth the $40 because you not only get a radio fail safe you get a engine temp gauge with overheat fail safe and a reciever battery voltage monitor/voltage fail safe all rolled in to one. It weights next to nothing and is super easy to setup,set and forget!

I there all, I have a Volcano STX and I was wondering if anybody else has had trouble controlling the temp. When I have tuned to where it will Idle and the speed is good the motor Temps out at about 320. I know that that is too hot or is it? What should it temp at. If anybody could help me that would be great.

320 is too lean. Run it at about 240-260.

ok a few questions about bodies and tires.... what is the hub size on the volcano? 14mm? and also what bodies can we put on it? would any body work or would i have to modify the wheel wells and mount holes?

hey just wanted to know what i should look for when gettin a failsafe. heard people talkin about the venom failsafe, and i was looking to see if futaba also made one as well,

now i know that the venom is like a three in one, (low batt, lose of revcieve, and temp gauge) would this one be a better choice in a failsafe? or does futaba make one cause i just ordered my new futaba radio system tonight??

The hex size on the Volcanos is 12mm...

As for bodies...there are several 1/10's that will fit...a few may take a little bit of modification...

Chubbysdad has a few different bodies available that wil fit the Volcano also.

thank you very much for the info.... i spoke to him about bodies already... he has the Himoto ones on his site... i'm looking for clear ones along the lines of a Hummer H1 or Ford Excursion or something like that..... i don't have a ton of money to toss at my truck to figure this stuff out, that's why i ask so many questions about what parts will fit and such. i app. all the info.

yeah go to tower hobbies.com and take a peek of all of there 1/10th clear truck bodies.. they have what your looking for.. And not bad pricing..

am i looking for 400mm in length? and also do i have to worry about width?
