is your glow plug good? and did you have fuel(dumb question)
. make sure your screws are good and tight. you could have a cut fuel line. That would cause the engine to stop and not start. or your screws that hold on the coolong head could be loose. its possible. Happened to me. Could be your prob, but i htink its the fuel line. check it.hope this works

did it make a noise or anything when it died like a pop sound if so you may want to tear the motor down and check the conrod but if it just died its probably the glow plug

all you got to do to check the fuel lines is take off the one that connects to the exhaust and blow in it with fuel in the tank it should blow fuel up to the carb if it doesnt check your o-ring in the gas tank

If none of that works check your tunning, if your running to lean you maybe getting burn off, where the nitro evaporates immediately and the oil boils out of the fuel line as soon as it hits the carb. Your engine is WAYYY to hot if that is the case. Had that happening to me with a Traxxas Rustler along time ago, couldn't figure out why it would die all of a sudden and then not start for a long time.

I agree with zack221. it sounds like the one way bearing. but if that dosen't work then I think its a loose bolt on the cooling head or something.good luck

here is a new one way bearing if yours is wore out you could also take the motor off and take your pullstart off just becareful and dont let the spring come unhook and smack you in the head

ive broken the engine down and put it back together all bolts are tight. the pull start bolt is messed up it doesnt free spin anymore, so pull start is off, i can spin the motor with a cordless drill, it spins but wont start and i know its getting gas cause it poured out when i broke it down. i have two .18 motors so i may swap the pistons see if the older one will start then. if not i may have to get a rebuild kit for it. its not an old motor maybe 1/2 gallon through it. ive put all hpi parts where i can, is there a similar motor in the hpi traxxas brand i could get a piston from?

it is suppose to spin clockwise and free spin counterclockwise, thats not a big issue i can spin the engine to start with a drill. but it just has no fire and glow plug is hot (new) the heat sink is tight everything is as it should be i think but no fire.

also check for air leaks seal the backplate and the base of the carb with high temp silicone and you also may want to take your carb apart and make sure it isnt clogged

your tuning may be way off so you could try retuning it here is a simple way i also posted it in the faq thread
ccw means turn the screw counter clockwise
cw means turn the screw clockwise
lsn-ccw richens and cw leans
hsn-cw leans and ccw richens
idle-cw opens the gap and ccw closes the gap
Set air gap of throttle 1.5 mm,(idle screw), HSN Cw til it bottoms out then 3 1/2 turn CCW. LSN Flush with the throttle housing + 1 turn cw. Try to start, will be runnin really rich, if it starts. Turn down idle speed, then adjust HSN cw til you have good acceleration to idle. if your idle speed rises, turn it down. May have to do a couple times. Last adjustment LSN, turn cw slowly til idle speed starts to rise. when it rises you're running lean, turn it CCW till idle speed just drops. Blip the throttle you should be acceleration ok with some smoke coming from the muffler.Lean the HSN 1/8 turn CW till your satisfied.
