on the tower site, look up the engine and you will see the manufacturers specs, you can buy that cone piece from sts but it comes with the engine i think, if not its a direct swap anyways on the hurricane, i did nothing but turn the carb around.

sorry bro, i noticed, traxxas is keeping it a big secret, i honestly not a big fan of the 3.3, i have a tmaxx, jato and rustler and i dont like the 3.3 or the 2.5, i replace with os's when they go bad, i find they need to be run fairly lean to get the wheelies that they are so known for and engine life is not soo long, not to metion they are a real pain in the butt to tune and dont hold the tune very well.

I read your question on the smartech page and figured you would probably see it here so here goes. The swap from a one to two speed is easy. I did it to a smartech car I bought used. (The yellow mustang in my gallery) The stock dogbones will work the trannies are the same width. All you should need is the clutch bell and tranny.
Stock Part #'s
45069-clutch bell or 45071-clutch bell and clutch pads and spring
I'll get right back to you with the 2-speed tranny part #

I always go through Ebay. Just type in the #'s and there's all kinds of options. The two speed tranny # is 35004. I kind of gave up on my onroad cars. After I found out my hurricane xl can jump four full size cars side by side what's the point? I got a video but it's about an hour long. I'm kinda retarded when it comes to computers so I don't know how to post it either. If you want a copy I can do that. If you need any more help with thew smartech let me know. You Can use the hpi clutch bell form your redcat but the smartech is a 18t/23t stock combo. The only problem I've had with mine is the dogbone drive cups loosen up and you'll end up with a two wheel drive. Besides that there not bad for the money.

Pretty sick man. I live in the middle of nowhere so no tracks but all kinds of open road without traffic and miles of empty feilds. I would love to actually try a race track though.

I have a question for you. If you have a 1/10 buggy it would help because I can't find the part #. If you take your front tire off you'll see two big set screws that hold in the ball head screws. When I change my front hubs with the aluminum ones I forgot to tighten them in an lost them both. The set screws not the ball head screws. I went to redcatracing.com but couldn't find them. Do you know the part # or where to get some? I tried stealing some off my smartech car but they are course thread and I need fine thread.

i was planning on buying sand tires for the tornado (once i get one that is) but if i used sand tires on the front, woulding it spray sand all over (and in) the car?....if i used rear sand tires on the rear and front sand tires on the front, since the rear wil get more traction, will it give me any problems? since there is unequal traction distribution?

1. they say 36,000 rpm
2. you can get an hpi 3 piece clutch bell set up, i use the 17/22 setup, its a tooth taller than the stock gears, clermontmotorsprots.com sells them, drop him an email. any higher geared and its a pig on take off, you can get different pinions to put on it, it just has to be a 5 tooth difference, example: 17/22 16/21 13/18
3. here are a few bodies that are a direct fit:

I went with The 18t/23t hpi 3 peice clutch bell and the himoto on-road car transmission gears. It makes your first gear 1 tooth shy of the second gear you have stock and the new second flies. I had a smartech 15cxp in it but it wasn't enough power for the gears. The o.s. .18 cv-rx has enough to make it really move though.

yeah, with the car gears and the extra tooth on the clutch bell, the gears are real tall for the stock motor, that os .18 is a nice motor, alot of power, i run like 4 of them.

Do you know what the biggest baddest engine for these is? I went with the o.s. but my buddy put the yeah racing 18cx in his and it's still a close call. When i was looking for engines it seemed like as soon as you get to the.21 or larger they all went to slide carbs. I just want to find something with enough balls to smoke the competition.

for direct fit, the os .18 cvrx is the way to go, you should be able to beat the yeah racing engine. Redcat danny put a hyper 21 engine in his, its fast, does wheelies on demand and rips spur gears like an ape on crack!!!!!! he had to redrill the engine mounts to make it fit. with that cvrx, make sure you have it tuned to total performance, its easy to mix running good to screaming with the os engine. even without a perfect tune, it runs good.

ha ha, I Talked to my buddy just a minute ago and he already blew the yeah racing engine up. It will be easy to beat him with no engine. Now he wants the o.s. go figure.

I learned the same thing on real cars. You get what you pay for. The only reason i think he was keeping up is he ran his way lean and mine was still running rich from breaking it in. When i was running it a little while ago i actually snapped the rear dogbone. Anyone know of stronger ones? Or is that something i just have to deal with from the extra power?

i remember someone posting about an hpi dogbone that fits somewhere along with the part number. I was thinking the same thing, i mean my os can lift the front of the tmaxx off the ground with no problem.

Hey guys, just got a tornado BB from a friend today. He didnt have much luck with it so he decided to pass it along to me. I am not experienced with cars(im a plane guy). The issue with the buggy is that it seems to be shifting into 2nd gear way to soon. At times it gets stuck in 2nd and bogs down when trying to take off. I have had a couple single speed rc cars but never a 2 speed so I am not sure on how to adjust it. Any suggestions?
