Newbies questions - Lightning Nitro
Hey everyone, i'm pretty new to this Nitro RC racing, i had a couple of small scale electrics but i'm considering buying one of these as a beginner in the nitro world.
My questions are:
1. Does the Red Cat Lightning come with ball bearings?...if not, what size and how many do they use?
2. Does it have reverse transmission?
3. Are aftermarket parts from other R/C companies compatible with these?...like shocks etc from say Traxxas or HPI...tyres etc
4. Are other 1/10 car bodies compatible?
Sorry for asking these questions, i couldn't find any info on the manufacturers site []

1) i don't know because i don't have one
2) no
3)some are some aren't, but you can get anything to work with a little modding
4) any 1/10 scale car body should work, you will just have to cut the body post holes in the correct spot, and mabye cut out the wheel wells to the correct size

I was reading here the Lightning 2 speed tranny sometimes gets stuck in second gear?
Does this still happen with newer models?

RE: Newbies questions - Lightning Nitro
lightning was the worst for me to run i own 5 nitro rc's so i like to think i know what im doing but the lightning vx .16 was such a pain to tune. it woulnt run right for months i just put it away i think it was stuck in second but it one day magically repaired itself and started running good but not great it still wont shift none of my redcats will shift and i really dont have the time to rip them apart and replace parts my experince with this car wasnt very good i hope yours will be better.

The 2 speed works good if you prep it right. I didnt have problems with it. But yes there is a single speed, but you get more top end if you have 2 speed

Well if it was me i would take it apart and locktite it, and make sure its all working correctly. Because if the screw falls out or something it wont work. First thing you do with ANY rc is to locktite all metal to metal screw. All rc's need to be checked. I didnt on my first one, nor did i with my used ones and i never had a problem. But some people have bad experiences with things falling apart when running.

RE: Newbies questions - Lightning Nitro
what all comes with the 2 speed transmission when ordering it from the website? everything in the picture or just the two gears. I'm wondering if its the whole unit, gears, the case, the clutch and all, just the gears, shaft, and case????? Has anyone bought the two speed trans from redcat racing? If its the whole shebang i see no need in getting another clutch or case for it, if it comes with it already. any help would be great,,, thinking of converting this nitro into brushless though, less maintance and less money on fuel , and glow plugs.
