So I've decided to give up on trying to make the factory engine on my Sandstorm to work properly and that I'll just buy a new engine. I was looking at ordering this engine
http://www.amainhobbies.com/product_...ullstart-Green
but I don't know if it will fit - also if it would work on my buggy, will I have to buy a tuned pipe when I buy this engine.
Thanks in advance~!

Well I know a .21 would fit but that engine i was looking that I linked is a .28 - maybe I do have to add somethings to make it fit but I don't know, I'm just looking for something at a good price that would out run my dads buggy and my cousin's buggy (my cousin has a Hurricane XTR Pro Series and its pretty fast)

that engine will drop right in your buggy...your flywheel clutches and everything will fit the engine....depending on how your buggy is geared will decide if you can out run the hurricane..I've never ran the axial before so I dont know how well it runs...as far as a pipe goes no, you dont have to change it, but a better pipe will do nothing but help the performance...

Ok so the engine is a .28 and will defiantly fit in my buggy and run fine but get this - i go to the local hobbytown usa just now and they tell me that the engine will "tear that car apart..." (direct quote from them) and the engine i link was in the store - seriously, hobbytown is bias against redcat cars cause countless times ive gone in there and was turned away from service cause i have a redcat buggy - also they said "a lot of people have been coming in here with redcat cars..." which is telling me you guys have been turning them away too - i mean its a hobby shop, the only hobby shop i have near me which is stupid cause the stupid hobbytown people wont help me at all, so what im going to do is buy this engine for 109 and buy a tune pipe for 54 and let that be that

Ya hobby shops that dont sell redcats are d bags when you bring it in. Like i was looking for a higher voltage esc for my ezrun brushless on my volcano. I asked them if they had any higher voltage esc fans and they asked, "what car is it for", i was like oh you dont carry it, its a redcat. And they told me that nothing will fit, they only fit on specific models. But i always tell them it doesnt have to fit exactly perfectly, the esc fan just screws into the esc fins and it will work
By the way why dont you do the redcat engine replacement program and get an sh28 for 90 bucks?

Yeah I mean what comes out of these peoples mouths are a loud of crap just cause u didnt buy a car from their hobby shop doesnt mean upgrades wont fit cause some companies dont make cars and just make engines, for instance, as hop up for other cars - it just pisses me off that i got to get everything from off the and wait and wait for it to be delivered when if the hobby shop would stop being d bags and help me - id be running my buggy right dude and i wanna it bad lolz
I dono lolz, i might just do that its just redcat is sooooo far from where i live it takes like 2 weeks for stuff from them to get here

Dereck..the engine he posted is an 8 port...should have more ump then a sh.28 p3......with that said..clip I do not personally know how well your buggy well take the power of that engine...if I am correct (I have been wrong before) your buggy has a plastic spur and quite possibly 2spd....if this is the case (plastic spur) you will havta have your mesh set really well to keep from stripping out the spur, even then you may run into troubles...
one thing you need to remember...your cousins hurricane xrb is made to withstand more, thats how it is designed....your buggy will not indure the punishment of power and abuse your cousin's buggy will..you may get yours to out perform in a drag race, but most likely if you throw them onto a track or track like conditions you well be eating his dust

Well one thing is - will replacing the spurs make it any better? like getting metal ones cause im planning on doing that anyways also my cousin is a nub a r/c cars - the hurricane is his first nitro buggy let alone first r/c car plus his is all wacked out of tunning and stuff and needs tunning badly

well if he needs tuning badly he will need an engine soon....running a nitro on a bad tune is very harmful to them....
as far as getting parts go, order them from dealers...my personal favorite dealer that sells redcat parts is Wade from allaboutfunhobbies, I've always gotten parts from him within 3 days....I've talked to Mike from rufaster a couple times and he seems to be an alright guy, I've heard he ships fast also...granted since all the rc's I got now are himoto (well excluding the revo which has found a new home) and I go directly through himotoracingusa I seldom order parts from anywere else so kinda outta the parts support loop....I do know for a fact that Wade will take very good care of you..and from the way I take it Mike is on the ball as well...
and yes on metal spurs....I would replace them with metal regardless which engine it had on it...thats just me
by the way...if I left out any dealers sorry...I've never had any direct contact with you and will only send people to places I know will get good service...nothing against you

Ya thats true, i just know i like the sh, things a beast and super easy to tune and holds it. I havent had a single problem yet. It doesnt show hp or tq ratings though.
Ive dealt with wade and he is great. The sandstorm has a mid diff doesnt it? I just looked one up online and it shows it. But i cant tell if its metal or plastic.

Clip, did your sandstorm come with a .21 or a .18? If it was an .18, you'll need a few parts before you can bolt in the .28.
As far as someone saying that an engine has more horsepower, or WILL have horsepower because it has more ports... that's not true! It is all in how the ports are designed Example, the OS V-Spec (a 3 port) has an incredible amount of power compared to the SH .21 8 or even 9 port.
This is just advice, I'd steer clear of Axial engines. The price is tempting, and there is a reason why it IS that low. Personally, I'd go for the sport .28 engine that Go Tech has to offer. Amain has the non-pullstart variant, they might be able to get you a pullstart version

somehow I got the sandstorm mixed up with the backdraft... I wouldnt suggest putting a bigger or more powerfull engine in it, I think you would have alot of issues with it

Ok, I have the axial .28 spec 1s in my hyper 7, and yes, it is a beast. It's very east to tune, and is one of the most reliable engines I've delt with so far. It starts within a couple seconds every time withe the roto start. But keep in mind, if the sandstorm has thin dogbones, a plastic spur gear, and not so strong diffs, then yes, the axial .28 will tear your car to shreds......it's a MT engine to begin with, it wasn't designed for a buggy. It has tons of torque, witch means the drive train of any R/C it is mounted in will most definetly recieve some serious abuse. If your thinking of purchasing the axial, then by all means do so, you can't get a better engine for the price, but keep in mind, you will have to adapt your buggy to accept the extra abuse.
